Our driver was on time, with a sign with my last name at the arrivals gate at the airport. He helped us with all our luggage. We had four adults with six bags of luggage. The temperature in the van was comfortable and he communicated very well before and during the trip to San Miguel from the BJX airport.
We arrived at BJX airport at midnight. Was so worried about safety in Mexico. Fortunately, I booked my airport transfer from booking.com at a rate about 89 pounds. At the airport taxi stand I saw a price of roughly 1600 Mexican pesos. Although there was a significant price difference, in view of a midnight journey through unknown terrains, I preferred a pre--booked private car. The journey to SMA was smooth and event less. I strongly recommend using booking.com, which was the cheapest I could find. When I returned to BJX from SMA, I called Uber which was quick to show up at the hotel entrance with a quoted rate of 1600 pesos. But the return journey became a nightmare due to a Mexico religious festival. Thousands of locals walked in the main road to BJX airport. We had to take a long detour (3 hours) to get away from congested road and ended up spending nearly 3000 Mexican pesos on Uber and barely caught my flight. SMA was a great and safe place to visit. But be prepared for a tough airport transfer. I bet it was because of the distance from major transportation hubs, SMA was able to maintain its unique colonial architecture of colorful styles. I will be back again to SMA some day but with better planning for airport transfer.
