Disappointing and Poorly Organised Tour

The tour was highly disorganised, and there was a complete lack of communication. The group consisted of two guides and twelve participants, yet the guides did not even introduce themselves. Their English proficiency was very limited, and they came across as rather unfriendly. Despite the sleeping bag being included in the price, we were required to pay for it again on-site. Even after inquiring beforehand about necessary preparations, the provided information weren’t given. On location the guides failed to discuss the itinerary or even outline the plans for the days ahead. Some participants openly admitted they had never used crampons before yet no instructions or helpful tips were provided to assist them. This was incredibly disappointing. The food, both on the trail and at the hut, was basic and lacked any appeal. Special dietary requests, such as vegan options, were disregarded despite being communicated in advance. While the hike itself was enjoyable and offered beautiful scenery, the overall experience was overshadowed by poor organisation and lack of care. What a shame!

Just Do It!

With the right guide, this is totally enjoyable. Hussein and Saeed were energetic, encouraging and very safety conscious. We lacked nothing. Plenty of food to compliment our own snacks, walking forecasts to help us mentally prepare with excellent local knowledge to help us learn about the Berber people and their culture. A memorable experience for sure.

To the Top

Beside the nature, and "early birds heading the top", ...tailored based service previden. Strongly recommended.

Harder than expected!

When you book this trek, I would advise choosing a pick up spot like cafe de France in the main square as they do not communicate with you about the pick up location and you don’t want to be left wondering if they’re going to pick you up or not. This trek is really tough, a lot more difficult then we expected, you need a good level of fitness to complete and get to the top. Hiking gear - boots, thermals, head torch etc necessary. Would advise bringing sweets etc for extra energy also. Our guide, Abdul, was brilliant. I wouldn’t have been able to get to the top without him and he dragged me up there and wouldn’t give up on me. The view from the top is amazing. The trek itself has better facilities than expected - lots of tuck shops with water, chocolate bars and crisps etc. The refuge was much better than expected also - had some western toilets, showers with apparently warm water (although probably no point in showering) and plugs so you can charge your devices. You will need to bring toilet roll though. The first day is 5 hours of hiking with a lunch break, you reach the refuge, have dinner, then get up at 4am the next day to hike to the ascent, then all the way back down. It’s intense, difficult but glad we did it!

Elevating experience

The tour was fairly organized, but the information provided is very little. First and for most-come in hiking gears, putting layers, and waterproof shoes, clothing. Not pair of jeans and trainers… ( have seen people ) The base camp is well organized and there is everything you need. Get basic toiletry with you, ideally a pair of flipflop to ease your feet from the boots. Altitude sickness can get to anyone, depends on the weather conditions it can worsen, as you will also need to fight the elements. I would not recommend the hike to beginners.

Great trip!

We had a great time climbing Toubkal. We strongly recommend our guide Kamal he is very friendly and made sure we were safe. He also told us a lot about the Maroccan culture which was very interesting. The climb requires good fitness level but is technically not very difficult. We rented a head torch and walking sticks in Imlil which is recommended! Also bring earplugs for the refugee where you will sleep, this can be quite noisy. We recommend this trip to everyone who likes outdoor adventure!

Toubkal hiking experience!

We had a wonderful time! We are from the Rockies and felt the hike was very reasonable if you have hiked before. The altitude does get to you a bit more near the top, so walk slower than you want and take breaks. The view is stunning. There is quite a stretch of glacier so either rent cramp-ons or bring them. You should bring lots of layers, a headlamp, sugar snacks and gravol (for altitude sickness), hiking boots, day pack, and your passport (there’s a police check before entering Toubkal. Lots of places to buy water along the way. Our guide, Ibrahim was amazing! He was so patient and encouraging and did so much for us! The lodge you stay at is very much “glamping.” We had an amazing time and are grateful for the experience! Thanks so much again Ibrahim!

Worth all the struggle! :)

It was amazing to be at the top of Mount Toubkal! But the way up was tougher than I expected. The guide was helpful and encouraging. It might have been better if we would have started the hike from Imlil village in the morning (not afternoon), so we could have walked slower and it might have been easier to get used to the altitude.

A tough climb but worth it

We had a great time climbing Toubkal with our guide Abdo, and would definitely recommend this trip - everything ran seamlessly. It's a tough climb, we'd consider ourselves quite fit and do a lot of hiking but definitely found the summit push hard. Another thing to note is make sure you have good gear if climbing in the winter. We summitted on the 5th of Feb and it was -20C at the peak. Accommodation is basic but absolutely fine for what you need for one night and the food was perfect. It's a stunning area and we'd definitely recommend visiting!

A peak to remember

This was an overall terrific experience, all down to our Guide, Mohammed who first summited Mount Toubkal at the tender age of 8 and continues to this day. He is passionate about the Atlas, the Berber people and the wonder of mountains. I would remind all those considering it that you need to go prepared for freezing conditions both inside the Refuge and on the mountain and very spartan conditions. Wet wipes, a thermos, plenty of thermal underclothes and a head torch are all essential. Don’t get scammed by some of the unscrupulous vendors renting mountaineering equipment at extortionate prices - review the main shops and go to these.
