These comments are for: -agency: "Marrakech Day Trips - Tours" -trip: From Marrakech: 3-Day Mount Toubkal Climbing Trek It's a shame that Trip Advisor doesn't allow for a zero star rating which the agency deserves. We booked mid February 2026 for a trip at the end of May 2026. About a week before our trip, the agency delayed our departure by 1 day because of a clash with a well known national holiday. This delay made for a very tight fit with our flight back home, and there was no response to our attempts to retain the original start of our trip. 3.5 months between our booking and the scheduled start of our trip wasn't enough for the agency to warn us! About 1 month before our trip, we sent questions to clarify important things like access to water during this arduous climb in very hot and dry conditions. We never received any response... On the day our delayed start, as we got to the agency in Imlil, we were informed that the 3 day trip we had booked (to allow for smooth acclimatation) was not possible because of snow conditions. Alternatives were now very limited because the mountain refuges were busy during the national holiday. The agency didn't seem to realise that warning us about the snow conditions a few weeks prior to our start would have been helpful and given us more options. In the end we opted for a 2 day ascent, with no mules to carry our heavy backpacks and no bed guaranteed at the mountain refuge, all because of the national holiday! On arrival at the mountain refuge we got lucky and found space in the dormitories, but some members of group started to suffer from altitude sickness... Altitude sickness meant a slow descent, so we missed the agency's bus to return to Marrakech. This resulted in a 3hrs wait for a taxi back to Marrakech. The amazing scenery, near perfect weather conditions, and our guide Houssain saved our trip. We had a wonderful time with Houssain throughout the 2 days and he was particularly helpful to sort out the taxi back to Marrakech. Don't let my rant put you off this Toubkal hike, but I would strongly recommend NOT to book with this agency because of the extremely poor planning and the near total lack of communication.
The agency that provided this service was, in my opinion, quite dishonest. Aside from the not-so-immediate response times, following my explicit request regarding the MANDATORY equipment for trekking, I was told that nothing was really necessary, neither crampons, nor headlamps, nor helmets, which we could only bring from home or rent on-site at OUR DISCRETION. Ironically, once we reached the starting point in Imlil, the agency representatives said that crampons (perhaps recycled from Messner's early expeditions in the 1970s), headlamps, and helmets (made of polystyrene, just to be clear) were not only necessary but mandatory, and that if we did not rent them, we would not be able to depart for the hike. Now, I can understand the cultural difference, and we can even accept some linguistic games of silence, but when an explicit request is made and one thing is stated and then the opposite is done, in my opinion, it fully enters the realm of dishonesty, a characteristic that should not belong to a provider of tourist services. It almost becomes superfluous to emphasize how we had paid for a guide who spoke English (even at a basic A1 level), just to understand a bit of context regarding the area we were moving through, but our good man spoke nothing but Arabic (and perhaps French), limiting himself to communicating through gestures, guttural sounds, or trying to repeat the phrases that were posed to him as questions. But really, the guide was also nice in his own way; I don't feel like criticizing him in any particular way. The real problem was, in my opinion, the dishonesty of the agency regarding the mandatory equipment, not to mention that out of 16 total rented crampons, 6 of them broke (or perhaps just came undone without the possibility of being fixed quickly, given the temperature and wind) within the first half hour of walking on snow. Now setting aside the organizational part and focusing on the experience itself, the trekking is truly very, very beautiful. Scenic landscapes among lush valleys, streams, waterfalls, and colorful metamorphic rocks accompanied us throughout the hike. The hospitality structures were really beautiful and characteristic, from the little huts along the trail, where you can eat and buy supplies, to the Le Muflons (ours) and Toubkal lodges designated for overnight stays. Aside from advising against this specific agency, I would say that this trekking truly has all the ingredients to experience something wonderful and unforgettable.
The experience was excellent from the moment we started the hike until the end, as the kindness of the guides and their attention was very good. However, regarding the selling company, there were communication and information failures (before the start of the expedition) to prepare logistics that are important for this type of sport, as it is not just a simple walk in the park. For example, we had to write, then call, and then insist again to coordinate the meeting point. Or the lack of information regarding access to water or the level of the shelter along the route, which were very good, but that lack of information can lead to carrying unnecessary weight. Additionally, the sale of the experience stated a guide in Spanish, and that did not happen.
This 2 day trek up Toubkal was wonderful. Collected on time on Thursday morning in the mini bus and off to Imlil. Everything was well organised and our 2 guides for the group of 11, Mohammed and Mouad, were excellent. Friendly, knowledgeable and safety conscious. Something to be aware of is that if you do this in March, like I did, there is likely to be a lot of snow on the mountain and can be very cold. So come prepared. You can hire some gear like the crampons, sticks and helmet. As a Winter trek, done over 2 days, the second day is a tough enough day, with the early morning start (4am) to the summit, followed by the full trek back down to Imlil. Food provided was lovely and plentiful and the refuge at the end of day 1 is far more impressive a place than I was expecting, and with a big stove in the dining room, a great place to warm up, dry out and chat with the group. With the cost of 135EU for the 2 days, experienced guides and lovely food along the way, this trip is definitely good value for money.
Top notch, a manageable ascent but not for those who do not have a very good level of general fitness. The ascent to the refuge is long and exhausting enough, if you struggle there I suggest you do not try to make the ascent in the morning as it is tough. As for the management of the experience, I can only give it top marks. Some reviews left the impression that communication was poor but all of my emails were answered promptly with loads of information. I was very happy with it. Hassan our tour guide was excellent. We had a group of varying abilities which I think he and his colleague managed very well . Equipment could be rented before starting the hike.
Absolutely excellent experience spent with friends. Our guide made this day of trekking in the Atlas incredible. The trails were easy to follow and the panoramic views of the Imlil valley were breathtaking. The traditional lunch was delicious. It is the perfect way to escape the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. I recommend 100%!
We spent two great days in Toubkal National Park, the transport to/from Marrakech worked well. We had a very friendly guide (Youssef) who put a lot of effort into it. The climb to Toubkal was exhausting, but the effort was definitely worth it, we had a wonderful view at sunrise.
We had no communication about the experience, no meeting time and meeting point, until during the night before the trip, 2h before. We were worried this was a scam but finally everything happen and the schedule was good. The guide barely speak english or french so did not know the information on were we go when we eat and stuff, we just need to follow without knowing. The guide was also a bit slow, sometimes we were wondering where is the guide cause we are ready to go. He was super nice to us and we had great partner, everybody summit and it was fun. However communication problem and long waiting makes it not perfect for a guided tour.
The trek was an unforgettable experience and achievement. Hassan, our tour guide, knows the mountains like the back of his hand and kept us safe and motivated the whole way through with his excellent guidance and quiet encouragement. Everything was arranged beforehand so we did not have to worry about a thing. The Sunrise at the summit was idyllic. Truly a wonderful journey.
What an incredible few days of amazing views, great food and excellent company! We opted for the 3 day hiking excursion up Mount Toubkal through GetYourGuide which I would highly recommend. Our guide, Hassanirmhan, was amazing throughout. He knows the mountains incredibly well, was both professional and friendly, making the whole trip run smoothly. Hassan helped us hire some gear early on which turned out to be essential. As a small group of 6, we were accompanied not only by Hassan but also 2 mules and 2 excellent chefs. The food was delicious and they catered very well for several of us vegetarians. Great taste and generous portions which you need for the hike. Unfortunately, we did not make it to the summit because the winds were too strong when we were high in the mountains on the second day. Although disappointing, this was the right decision. Hassan rearranged our trek to accommodate for the unexpected weather and it was brilliant regardless. A few things I would recommend to bring for the excursion: a microfiber towel, soap, flip flops for the evening, head torch for summit day, gloves, hat, toilet roll, energy bars, electrolytes, sleeping bag, ear plugs, etc. The mules can take a fair amount of luggage whilst you take a day bag which is helpful, but still pack quite light. Thank you so much for an unforgettable experience! Matt + Rebekah
