We arrived at our meeting point , no sign of our tour guide. Phoned the number provided.vinevidently woke up the guy on the other end of the phone. The guide said he hadn't checked his itinerary and forgot that he had a tour that morning.
Hello , I haven't forgotten about this tour; it's just that I don't run food tours unless there are at least four people. You booked for three people, and I don't run group tours—only private ones. I've asked Viator's customer service to automatically cancel bookings whenever the required number of participants isn't met.
😊We had a really exceptional time with Laurent during the activity. We were particularly touched by its small tasteful attention, as delicious as it is surprising. Thanks to him, we discovered Marseille in a new light and learned a lot of exciting things. We highly recommend it!!!!
Laurant was fun and knowledgeable but had I known this was a rolling picnic with him packing the food, I would have selected another tour.
Amazing tour with Sophia. Great group on the tour and interesting food and some very nice wines. The weather was perfect and everyone in great form after the rugby match the previous evening. We won 🙌🏼
When we complained to the Marseille Tourist Office, they said our guide was known as "a man who guides a culinary tour and serves food from a thermos." It seems others had similar experiences. There were a group of six French people, two German tourists, and two guide interns on the "3-hour walking food tour." I think one of the recent reviews might be from an intern pretending to be a tourist. The German girls are also upset about the poor quality of the tour and are in touch with us. We started by drinking fish soup from a thermos, accompanied by poutargue, in the middle of a gallery where we felt out of place. We couldn't get chickpea crepes because the place was closed, much to our guide's surprise. Then, our guide wanted us to drink anise liqueur from a thermos in front of the Opera when another place was closed. In a desperate move, our guide led us to a dingy shop that sold cheese, fish, and meat together. The guide ordered one small cheese to share, plus whelks and chickpea chips that expired six months ago. We ate them because we were hungry. It was only later that we noticed the chips' expiration date. When we pointed this out to our guide, she said that such items don’t spoil. After looking around, I noticed that there were a lot of expired items being sold in this shop. It seems like it might even specialize in selling such things. We didn't finish the whelks, and the guide told to the shop owner that her son would pick them up later in the afternoon. After two hours, we realized it was a scam and confronted the guide. We even called her boss, but he didn't want to talk to us. The guide said there would be more to see and taste, so we followed, skeptical. And rightly so. Our "grand finale" consisted of one bottle of wine, two baguettes, two identical cheeses, and some tapenade jars arranged haphazardly on a random bench. Please refer to the attached photo of our pitiful picnic for eight. In conclusion, this experience was not only disappointing but also a clear case of being scammed.
I attended a tour with a group of two Germans and six French people, as indicated on the site the tours can be done in several languages so here we had French and German mixed since it was not a private tour. This really annoyed the French so there was a bad atmosphere from the start... We tasted tapenade, an anchoidade, wine, whelk, pastis, two cheeses, soup, poutargue, rouille which is already 9 dégustations. We visited the districts which hides the history of Marseille and its ships explained well by the guide , we also visited the Marché de Noaille, it is a place hidden from tourists which clearly shows the diversity in the history of Marseille. Unfortunately at 2/3 of the tour the French were unsatisfied because they didn't have enough to eat, and stopped the tour to attack the guide instead of leaving (as they kept saying) they couldve asked for a refund or an explanation from the boss after the tour. Because of this the end of the tour was rushed with only half an hour left because we lost 30 min arguing we were not able to visit the quartier du panier. Unfortunately this all happened because of unsatisfied customers, which I can understand but dont ruin the experience for others please.
My brother in law and I had a really fun tour with Laurent, who was v informative and genuinely cared about us learning about the fabulous city. Although not as much wine as we thought there would be.. we were provided with a great sample of food, snacks and drinks (much of which Laurent himself had prepared). Laurent even helped us to get to the Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde, which he didn’t have to do (v kind). You should definitely do this trip to explore, discover new things and laugh a lot.
tour guide cancelled citing not enough people. Why state private if you require a minimum, I would have paid what a private would cost!!
We had a superb tour with Alex what a character We strolled through town chatting like old friends He took us all over town We had an awesome time high;y recommend Ask for Alex you won’t go wrong Book with confidence
Delightful wander through town along with some history lessons. Laurent is a chef and made us several items to taste which were delicious. We stopped for chocolate twice, pastry and bread, empanadas, wine and a good luck shell fish hinge. We wandered through an old time hardware store and a very old herbalist shop. We stopped at a medicine market. Our ambulation was only marred by a high wind and lashing rain at the last 10 minutes.
