Traveling with a 7 and 10 year old can be hard, but this tour made it easy. The guide kept things fun and engaging. The train ride was a highlight for the kids. Highly recommend for families.
Our trip to Machu Picchu was expertly managed by Salkantay Travel. We purchased tickets in Aguas Calientes and had an overall incredible time! The transportation and the guides were excellent - highly recommend this tour operator!!
The trip went okay until it didn't. Day 1 with George went okay with visits to sites in Cusco and great lunch buffet. At the end of the day he left us at Ollantaytambo station to catch the train to Machu Pichu. The delayed train got us late into evening in Machu Pichu town. His assistant there rushed us to get Machu Pichu tickets. We could not get tickets for the next morning so wasted 2 hours next day waiting to go to Machu Pichu. Then we were rushed to buy the bus ticket to go to Machu Pichu mountain. We had to pay for this ticket though the trip said to cover all tickets for the trip. This was a surprise at last minute. Then we were left at the hotel which was not 3-star hotel as described in description. Next day, their representative arrived late at 10.30 and took us to the bus to go up the mountain and told us that a guide will meet us up there but with no idea how we would be able to get in entry at specific time. After the bus journey, the security at the gate did not allow to go up since our entry time was different. The company's guide was no where to help or show up. After a long argument and pleading to authorities, we got to go up on our own with no guide. Finally at the top, we checked with other guides and located guide allocated to us. He was just roaming around. Finally he joined us and kept on insisting to take photos with him. We had to tell him to tell us about the site and history of Machu Pichu. We barely got 1 hour at the peak and had to rush back to get the bus and to get to train which was wrongly scheduled by this travel company at 2.30p without knowing how much time will we get. Just bad logistics was the sad part of this trip. After paying so much, we expected them to make proper arrangements to make sure that we get proper time as promised in the trip description but was disappointed with the experience.
We were scammed by this company. We booked the all inclusive 2 day private Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tour. They changed the itinerary of the Sacred Valley portion of the tour without informing us. When we arrived in Aguas Calientes, we were informed that we needed to go and buy our Machu Picchu tickets ourselves, despite this supposedly being included in the tour price. By the time we got to the ticket office, the tickets were sold out. The company was difficult to contact, and refused to answer our phone calls. They took a long time to respond to messages. They wasted our time and ruined our trip. The whole reason we came to Peru was to visit Machu Picchu, and we did not get to do this because of this company. They were not transparent about what booking with them meant, highly disorganised, and at the end tried to blame us for not getting the Machu Picchu tickets, despite us following their itinerary. Do not book with them if you want to experience Machu Picchu.
We were scammed. We booked an expensive all-inclusive private two day Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tour. They changed the itenerary for the Sacred Valley portion of the tour without informing us. When we arrived in Aguas Calientes, we were told we had to ourchase our Machu Picchu tickets ourselves, despite these supposedly being included in the price of our tour. By the time we got to the ticket office, they were sold out. The tour company never told us this was a possibility. They were very hard to get a hold of, and refused to answer our calls. When we finally spoke to them, they blamed us, saying we took too long to get off the train. The whole reason we came to Peru was to visit Machu Picchu, and they ruined this for us.
Terrible, scammers, you pay an “all inclusive” package you have everything square and 1 day before they tell you that by machu Pichu schedule “supposedly” they have to move your trip pay an extra night elsewhere, you arrive hot waters and they run you so that you yourself have to buy your tickets, knowing that you risk running out of quotas and you can not enter as happened to us, an agency that pays you to be put to do the work of them, then they propose you WITHOUT TICKETS, go to machu pichu and see if an acquaintance of them helps you sneak in, and after all you ask for refund of your money and he Mr. Jorge representative of the agency a complete, rude, puts a thousand excuses and wants to blame you for not running to manage to buy the tickets, when in the itinerary they send you previously clearly says that they include tickets to the site and transport, you incur extra expenses as a hotel that you did not plan, and train tickets, outside the time (1 day) in our case that we lost of our trip, to go there and disappoint us to see that we were cheated.
My wife and I took the Machu Picchu private tour in Cusco in January, and I remember it as an unforgettable experience. The organization was excellent. Mr. George was the guide who accompanied us, and he treated us with undeniable kindness and attention. We are very grateful for the way he guided us and for the service he provided. He is very well trained and truly excellent at what he does. We highly recommend his service.
Excellent tour with guide George, very polite, requested and helped me in all parts of the trip. Sonia who picked me up on the train in Aguas Calientes and Edwin who was the guide there inside Machu Picchu were also amazing. They take pictures, talk about the place, are polite and take us to very interesting points. It is a very cool trip, but you have to be prepared to walk and altitude is really an important topic to be considered. Not recommended for children and people who have traffic problems.
Took this two day Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour and it was a remarkable trip. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and all thanks to Jorge, our guide who was very attentive and took a great effort in making this a memorable trip and an experience of a lifetime.
This two day Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tour was interesting and well organised. Jorge was our tour guide and he was extremely knowledgeable. The tour company organised the tour very efficiently.
