Ijen Blue Fire Trekking

What an amazing experience we have had on our Private Ijen Crater tour. We consider ourselves extremely lucky to have gone with Java Exotica who have been an absolute pleasure to deal with from start to finish. We had actually got this tour booked with another agency who let us down so we contacted Java Exotica at the last minute who managed to arrange an absolutely wonderful tour. Our driver Aldo and our guide Rouf were amazing and could not have done more to make our experience first class. We would highly recommend using this agency. Thanks for such an amazing day.

We had a fantastic trip to the Ijen blue fire volcano crater. Our excellent guide Rury and his driver picked us up at 12:30 AM at our homestay, and we drove to the Ijen volcano national park. We then had some short refreshments, and when the national park opened at 2 AM, we made our way with Rury to the top of the volcano crater. We then put the gas masks that Rury supplied us with, ready to wear at the first scent of hydrogen sulfide, and then went over the edge of the crater. We climbed down to where the sulfur vents are at the bottom of the crater next to the lake, and we had a most spectacular view of the blue fire there. We got a bunch of pictures and then went back up with Rury to the crater top, and then made our way to the sunset point. Even though it was still raining when we went on our way there, the rain stopped and we were able to see a beautiful sunrise, the clouds over the crater cleared, and we had a perfect view of the blue lake at the crater bottom, with clear views of the sulfur vents, and we even had a full 180° rainbow to take pictures of. We then walked back down to the park entrance and got a ride back, and made it back to our homestay before 9 AM that morning. I can’t say enough good things about Rury. He was very attentive to all our needs, made sure my wife was comfortable with her footing going down some of the steeper parts inside the crater, took many pictures of us and waited patiently while we took our own pictures, and generally entertained us with great stories on the way. I would very highly recommend Rury as a guide, and would definitely use him again if I come back.

The guide and the driver spoke real good english and were a hilarious duo. Both were really fun to talk to and our guide answered all our questions. The day we were there it was not possible to go close to the blue flames because of potential toxic gases. Nevertheless we made our own blue flames by setting small pieces of sulfur on fire. A few minutes later all the other guests joined us to look at them. All in all a super experience!

The tour was perfectly organized by Aldo and communication via Whatsapp was problem-free! Our guide Wawan was very nice and gave us a lot of information about the tour and also Java ! Overall, the tour was very nice is highly recommended!

What an incredible experience from start to finish! All thanks to our wonderful, extremely knowledgeable guide Malik! He made sure we did our best to avoid getting stuck in crowds of people, and it made all the difference. It was way better moving quickly to the front of people. Seeing the blue fire was amazing and Malik got some great photos and videos of us throughout the experience. You can tell he knows so much about Ijen and the volcanoes of East Java.

The whole experience from beginning to end was fantastic. The team arrived early and was ready to go! We were one of the first groups to start up the “hill”. Our guide, Wawan, was right behind us the whole way. Our driver was smooth and comfortable both ways! Wawan had been doing this hike for years and knew the route well and was encouraging and full of knowledge. We really enjoyed his guidance and company. All in all an amazing experience. Ijen is an amazing hike and if you get the right guide and it makes it all the much better. This company have a great guide in Wawan!

We had an excellent Ijen trekking tour yesterday. Aldo is very experienced and proactive operator. He customized our tour to give us the best possible experience. Thanks to him, we lost no time receiving medical authorisation and we positioned well for the trekking right when the gate was opened at 2:00am. Please be aware that there is a huge number of people trekking to the same small place in the crater where the blue light is observable. The last leg of the trail from the crater edge down to the blue light spot is treacherous. So, a trekking guide is recommended. Aldo introduced us to the guide Rouf who did excellent job leading us during the 6 miles round trip hike. For those who do not want to walk, there were many locals providing "taxi" services up and down. If you are lucky with the weather, you can see all three main attractions of the hike: the blue light, the sunrise, and the crater lake from the rim. I strongly recommend the activity and Aldo as a Ijen trekking tour operator.

Do it! It’s a very cool and adventurous tour!! We had a great and unique experience! Big thanks to our two guides for this adventurous tour! Our driver, and the guide who joined us on our trip down the crater, were both extremely friendly and helpful! Both guides speak English very well and are funny and extremely friendly. The tour is well organized, and our driver even drove us to our next destination after completing the tour! Absolutely worth it!
