Vi passerer grænsen til Frankrig og kører ind i landet til Louhossoa. Vi strækker benene, går rundt, besøger nogle interessante hjørner og passerer en fantastisk håndværker-småkagebutik. Der er cirka 40 minutters kørsel til stoppestedet.
Når vi begynder at komme tæt på pyrenbjergkæden ankommer vi til Espelette, en af de hyggeligste landsbyer i Frankrig. At slentre gennem gaderne i denne landsby er en sand fornøjelse. Peberfrugter hænger fra dets maleriske huse og skaber et postkort, der er svært at glemme I denne landsby er der meget at se og smage. Vi elsker at besøge den lokale sælger og prøve det lokale charcuteri, håndværksosten fra Pyrenæerne, deres berømte Espelette peber og dens derivater, kirsebær, håndværksøl og mere. Vi vil også besøge dens gade, den fantastiske Saint Etienne kirke, kirkegården og den fantastiske og maleriske arkitektur generelt. Senere vil vi være i stand til at nyde en farm-to-table frokost i en velkendt restaurant rundt omkring (hvor de producerer deres egne charcuterivarer, kød og ost). Ainhoa blev grundlagt i det 13. århundrede og blev bygget til at byde velkommen og hjælpe pilgrimme på vej til Santiago de Compostela. Denne lille by har praktisk talt én stor gade med 700 indbyggere og ligger præcis mellem Le Nive-dalen og grænsen til Navarra, der kombinerer det grønne i bakkerne med de hvide og røde facader af de gamle huse fra det XVII århundrede. It is a nice. I would have rather spent a little more time in one of the other places and just. visited one less town.

Thanks to his recommendations and planning, we visited amazing places like Louhossoa, Espelette, Sare, Ainhoa, and Bera, as well as incredible hidden spots like Roland’s Pass — places we probably never would have discovered on our own. Every stop felt authentic and special, allowing us to experience a much deeper and more local side of the Basque Country. Sebastián is extremely knowledgeable about the region, connects very naturally with people, and it’s clear he is highly respected by the locals. First we would like to thank Jon for being so helpful and courteous with everything-communication, advice,service, and follow up. We never felt we were “on our own “ or unsure about the booking. Our guide,Sebastián, was excellent. From pick up to drop off he was outstanding in providing help,information, and being all around friendly. He was so enthusiastic, it felt like we were all seeing everything for the first time. The tour took us through an amazing landscape and he provided wonderful detail and delightful surprises. Our stops in each village gave us a chance to explore and learn about the Basque culture and language. Our guide Jon Gurrea was so knowledgeable about the Basque region and language. The tour was a lot of fun and the places we went to were picturesque and interesting. Great balance between the countryside and the coast. All the tastings were delicious.

Jon was a terrific guide. Punctual, knowledgeable and great for conversation. His love for the Basque Country is palpable! We visited some of the most charming French towns in the countryside and tried some of the most unique, delicious French delicacies. I would highly recommend to anyone who would like to explore the wonderful French /basque countryside. The coast is beautiful as well but the countryside has an inexplicable beauty, serenity and well worth the visit.
