Fun Family Kayak Trip with Calypso Kayaking We booked a family trip with Calypso Kayaking in August for a group of 12 and had a wonderful time overall. The tour started at Manatee Cove Park, where we kayaked out to Triangle Island. We arrived about an hour early and learned that the guide usually arrives only at the scheduled time, so there wasn’t much to do while waiting (the base is mostly just a large parking lot with a short walking trail). Thankfully, our guide came early, which was a relief and allowed us to get on the water sooner. The kayaking itself was easy and relaxing, perfect for all ages in our group. At Triangle Island, we were able to get out, swim, and enjoy the calm, shallow water. This was one of the highlights of the trip. Our guide was laid-back and never rushed us, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Along the way, we spotted a couple of dolphins and several birds. The manatees at Manatee Cove were more elusive—we only caught a few glimpses of their backs from a distance. A few tips for future visitors: Arrive at the arranged time, not too early, since there’s really nothing to do while waiting. Bring plenty of water, as there are no nearby shops. Pack water shoes, since the entry to the water can be a bit rocky. Overall, I recommend Calypso Kayaking for families and groups looking for a fun, casual day on the water. It’s a great way to enjoy Florida’s wildlife and spend some time outdoors together.
Quick and easy check in, I was out my car and ready to launch the kayak within minutes. They gave us great advice on where to go to see the best stuff. Overall 10/10 I will be back
The owner was super personable and friendly. Our brand new spray sun block was defective, and he gave us a sun block packet to use. We saw everything that was advertised, Manatee, dolphin, and an island.
Showed up for 3pm reservation. No one was there. Had to call like 10 times to even get a hold of the owner. Finally called back a hour after our reservation. He said he was not even aware of the reservation. Got the code to unlock the kayak and had to get it ourselves. No guide to lead us. Had no idea where to go. Didn't really see any manatees, or much wildlife at all. Rather disappointing.
Sorry about that, I made a mistake and didn't see your booking.
It was easy to book. Everything went smoothly. We saw dolphins and manatees! It was a great experience!
Great!
The equipment was fine. Check-in was easy and very casual as the attendance left after they gave us instructions how to get the kayak and lifejackets ready for lunch. Little instruction on where to go, what to avoid, you just hit the water and go. We took a tandem, and like I said the equipment was acceptable. Nothing fancy about this place. There were no restrooms, you had to go down to the park facility. No place to lock up car keys, etc. so if you go come prepared with a dry bag.
My location is at a County Park right on Manatee Cove. Kind of primitive with no city water or electricity. I am allowed to leave my kayaks on site but I am not allowed to put up a building. There is a pavilion near the launch site with bathrooms. This spot is very popular with for fisherman and nature lovers. It is very safe to kayak in the shallow water and you don't need much instructions. Feel free to ask any questions about the area. If you kayak on your own, please do some research and make a paddle plan.
We were told there would be a guide, not true. You’re only renting out the kayaks and you figure out the rest. We were also told there’s not alligators. Wrong again! While trying to take cover from a storm, we encountered a Gator while stranded in strong winds and open water. The experience was beat, but not knowing what to do in the middle of the storm she’s seeing gator, was scary!
I'm sorry about the confusion, You booked a rental to go on your own. No where does it say a guided tour on your reservation. Another review about the weather that I can't control. You got the service you paid for with nice kayaks. I'm sorry the baby gator scared you. Gators don't attack humans, they are afraid of people.
Phil was great at giving advice where to see the manatees & dolphins. Kayaking out to the island. We had a blast and plan on doing it again before we go home.
Thanks, I have one of the best location for kayaking and seeing wildlife.
Kayaks were comfortable and it good shape. We saw lots of manatees up close and even caught a glimpse of a few dolphins. Very relaxing time out in the water.
This was a family trip- ages 8-72! Pollyanna was our guide and she was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and the animals. We saw many manatee, dolphins and birds. I would have like a little more time in the cove with the manatee but overall it was a favorite adventure of our trip!
Thank you for the nice review.
