It is a lot of fun…Parinita our guide took us to some local places to sample a variety of foods at two different stops. In between eating she would show us the neighborhood and places of historic nature and explained the context behind them. All in all we enjoyed the few hours we spent with her…the food was good and she is a delight
Gilbert was very knowledgeable and explained the history that was relevant to the food we ate. We overran the allotted time but Gilbert didn’t seem to mind
Though the guide was adequate, this food tour left much to be desired. As we’ve been to some great local food tours in other countries. Ridiculously overpriced. Guide provided local food (marginal) from his neighborhood. Also ate from local stall (same dish throughout Capetown and fried fast food joint.

Due to circumstances outside their control the tour did not happen. Tour guide had car trouble and couldn’t make it. Viatour refunded the full amount no questions no hassles. Excellent service
Although our guide was very nice, the value for the tour was not there. We went to 3 places and had 2 dishes at the first place a curry and appetizer, 2 deserts at the second, one amounted to a half a donut each and the last was a plate of food with 2 beers. We had to buy our own water in the tour which was necessary with the curry. I would recommend going to a restaurant and requesting local dishes.

Tastings is a bit of a misnomer. We had 10 full meals or platters at several local eateries. All of the food was sensational. And our tour guide was an obvious local favorite. He was so knowledgeable about both the city and its history. We had a great time.
Our guide was great- friendly, funny and very knowledgeable. Thats where it ends…. Food experience was awful! First taste was a baguette thing with either meat or chips with salad- it was very poor quality and salad consisted of a slice of limp cucumber. The chips were also raw! One stop was awful fish + chips and another a cup of very ordinary rooibos tea. Went to a hawker centre which had amazing choices of food incl indian, turkish etc but we were only allowed a falafel wrap between 4 of us! I do NOT NOT recommend this tour and it is so so so overpriced. Very disappointing as we have had some amazing food tours over the years in different cities via viator.

Great experience rain or shine! Great to have a local guide. Thank you! The food was great and the guide was very friendly and knowledgeable!
If I could rank this any lower than 1 star I would. Worst tour of my life as a foodie that has done many good tours around the world. Good reviews for this tour were for another guide. Guide was unprofessional and unorganized with a total of 7 tastings not 10. Felt like he was looking for the cheapest places to find food and gave no explanation to store just that locals ate the item. Cheaper than McDonald quality and cheap food. Guide ate leftovers. Took us to a horribly unsafe neighborhood and I was assaulted and robbed by a local. Guide put us in danger and all locals were appalled he took us to someplace so unsafe. Do not book!!!! He has been reported but no confirmation he was fired from Viator.
A fantastic host, Gilbert. Very informative, interesting and a fun way to see the city and enjoy a more local experience.
