Nyd denne gåsafari med Kenya Bush ekspeditionsture og rejser. Halvmåneøen er et smukt sted gemt i gulvet i riftdalen. Det er omgivet af den smukke sø Naivasha, hjemsted for hundredvis af flodheste. Efter 1,5 timers kørsel fra Nairobi, er du velkommen på halvmåneøen ved venlige hjælpelinjer.

Dette vil være en vidunderlig dag for dig. Vores chauffør vil hente dig tidligt om morgenen fra dit byhotel. Efter en kort introduktion vil du køre i 1,5 timer til Crescent Island med et stop ved Great Rift Valley View Point for fotografering. En fartbåd venter på dig til færge til øen. Der er tusindvis af fugle at se, dyr græsning ved bredden af søen og snorkende hoveder af store flodhest. Piloten er kyndig og fungerer som din guide i søen. Efter 30 minutters kørsel kommer du til øen og hilses velkommen af de venlige guider. De vil lede dig gennem øen og vise dig dyr og vegetation. Fra toppen af bakken er der en 360 graders udsigt over søen fra Longonot til Hell's Gate til Mau Escarpement til Eburu og på Aberdares. Der er flere dyr pr. Acre end nogen anden kenyansk park, og derfor har mange filmfirmaer været på øen for at filme besætningerne Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Zebra og Gazelle. Vi er ikke indhegnet for at tillade dyrelivet på fastlandet at komme ind, da de mister deres habitat til udvikling og den stadigt stigende befolkning. Hippo græsser over os om natten og sover under akacia eller hvile i vandet om dagen. Giraffen, der blev født på øen, vender tilbage til fødslen; nogle gange ser du tre generationer ad gangen. Hyena kommer til at jage om natten, men er ikke bosiddende på øen, de mange python der bor her kan ses lejlighedsvis med en drab. Grupper af bøffel kommer og går, men de overvåges altid. Du vil nyde din mad i parken. Efter 4 timer på øen kommer båden til at hente dig til hovedlandet. Du vil afsted for nairobi med mange minder.

I booked their Crescent Island tour and, while their website said it was US$150pp, it was actually US$200 since I was a solo traveler, but it was worth the extra cost. Joseph picked me up from my hotel right on time and told me a lot about Kenya as we traveled to Lake Naivasha, with a brief stop to take in the views of the Great Rift Valley. As I'd told him that I was interested in birdwatching, Joseph made sure to find me a boatman who knew about birds for my tour of Lake Naivasha. (Once I reached Crescent Island, I was handed over to one of the island guides, Steven, who showed me tons of birds, mammals and even a reptile.) Once I rejoined Joseph on the mainland, he recommended Kifaru for lunch. It's a tourist cafe a little ways from the lake, so the prices are better than the lakefront options. He steered me away from the a la carte menu to the buffet, which all of the guides (and the well-informed guests) order. For less than US$10, I had a plate with yummy stewed beef, salad, mixed veggies, sauteed spinach and ugali (a steamed cornmeal bread). Then he returned me to my Nairobi hotel right on schedule, after a very full and interesting day.

I was alone with Julius and I really enjoyed the time I spent there with him. He was very qualified for his job and knew a lot of different things. We have been able during this day to drink Kenyan coffee, buy some Kenyan gifts, do a boat ride on Naivasha Lake and of course to see all the animals of the crescent island. We could almost touch them, it was a one time experience. It was marvelous. I think I will remember this day my whole life. Thank you to Julius who has been such a good guide during this day. Booked this tour as side activity (after big national parks) and was positively surprised. Island is very beautiful. You can see various mammals and birds from close distance, zebras and giraffes were the cutest. Whole scenery is very beautiful. Includes short boat ride as well. Driver/guide Julius was great,.too. Provided a lot of interesting information, took photos of me, gave me enough time on the island and generally was nice.
