Valentolla was a great guide. The food was all good and local ingredients. Highly recommend.
Francesca gave us an incredible tour! We ate so much delicious food while learning all about its history, as well as the fascinating history of Bologna's streets. We even got to see one of the city's famous secrets 😉 Don't miss this tour!
Luca was fantastic very knowledgeable and passionate about the City and the local food. The venues we visited for food and the food we tasted were great the whole evening was exceptional.
Eugenio Marcchetti was our tour guide. He was amazing. Super knowledgeable about both Bologna and the food of the region. I would highly recommend.
Eugenio was our guide on a very hot day in Bologna - despite this, his enthusiasm and energy made him a fantastic host, and everything we tried was delicious. We also learnt a lot about different types of food and history throughout - this tour is well worth booking if you are in Bologna, especially if for the first time.
We had a fabulous tour and food experience with Giulia! She was so knowledgeable about the foods, ingredients and history of the traditional dishes of Bologna. She also shared information about the history of the Churches, Piazzas, porticos, the University, Market Street and the City Centre. The food was delicious and portions were very generous! We highly recommend Giulia and this food tour!
Come with an empty stomach and good walking shoes. If doing this in the Summer (like we did), bring a fan of some sort to keep you cool. Eugenio, our tour guide, was excellent and provided everyone with cold water bottles at the beginning of the tour to keep us hydrated throughout. Not only was the food amazing, but Eugenio's knowledge and passion for Bologna made this tour memorable for my family and I. At the end of the tour, Eugenio shared great recommendations with us, then followed up with us over WhatsApp, where he then shared copies of all the materials he used throughout the tour.
Bologna Small Group Food Tour with Full Meal was, without question, one of the greatest experiences of our trip to Italy. If you want to understand why Bologna is considered the food capital of Italy, book this tour and ask for Eugenio Marchetti. Eugenio's passion for authentic Bolognese cuisine is contagious. You quickly realize that extra virgin olive oil, traditional recipes, handmade pasta, artisanal cheeses, and authentic gelato aren't just foods to him, they're a way of life. His love for Bologna's culinary heritage shines through every story, every stop, and every tasting. A big plus, he also has 2 degrees from the University.....he has his roots in Bologna. We discovered that pairing the perfect local dish with a crisp sparkling white wine or a beautifully balanced, light-bodied red wine transforms a great meal into an unforgettable experience. Every pairing elevated the flavors and demonstrated why Italian cuisine is celebrated around the world. One of the highlights was learning how traditional cheeses are made. We sampled cheeses aged from just a few years to more than a decade, each developing increasingly complex flavors and textures. We also learned that some of Italy's finest cheeses aren't meant to be sliced with a knife but gently broken into rustic pieces. Breaking the cheese preserves its natural crystalline structure and allows the flavors and aromas to reign supreme. It was one of those "wow" moments that completely changed how we'll enjoy cheese forever. Eugenio also introduced us to the small, family owned "hole-in-the-wall" restaurants that locals treasure. These hidden gems don't need flashy signs because their reputation has been built over generations. Every stop felt like discovering a culinary secret. The selection of organic, naturally raised meats was equally memorable. We tasted several regional pork and beef specialties, from tender veal and perfectly fried pork cutlets to beautifully seasoned steaks. Learning about the local tradition of raising animals with care and allowing them to roam naturally gave us an even greater appreciation for the quality of the food. You can truly taste the difference when the ingredients are respected from farm to table. Perhaps the biggest surprise was learning what authentic Italian gelato is actually supposed to taste and feel like. We learned how real gelato is made with natural ingredients, why the texture is so incredibly smooth and creamy, and how to recognize the difference between authentic gelato and tourist versions. That lesson alone was worth taking the tour and the big plus was savoring creamy fruity or chocolate gelato impressed my taste buds. We also learned that Italian pasta is an art form. Every shape is designed for a specific sauce, and the balance of ingredients matters. Even details such as not mixing garlic into traditional red or white pasta sauces helped us appreciate the authenticity and precision behind classic Bolognese cooking. Every tasting was simply heavenly. From handmade pasta and world-class cheeses to exceptional cured meats, organic regional meats, incredible wines, and unforgettable gelato, every bite felt like seventh heaven. Eugenio was knowledgeable, entertaining, warm, and genuinely passionate about sharing the traditions of his city. This wasn't just a food tour. It was a masterclass in Bolognese culture, history, and cuisine that completely changed the way we think about food. If you're visiting Bologna, don't miss this experience. Come hungry, come curious, and prepare to leave with a completely new appreciation for one of the greatest culinary cities in the world. Thank you, Eugenio, for an unforgettable afternoon. Five stars simply aren't enough!
