A good private desert tour from Fes to Marrakech We booked the private 3-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech for our family of three (two adults and one child). Overall, we had a good experience and were happy with the organisation and the variety of the tour. The communication with Omar before the trip was very smooth. He always replied quickly to our questions and everything was clearly discussed in advance. The private tour was also a good choice for us, as we could stop along the way and take our time at different places. Our driver, Ismaal, was friendly and helpful, and we felt safe throughout the journey. He was also very flexible with our plans. We visited the Atlas Film Studios in Ouarzazate, where we spent around 2.5 hours. The entrance fee was not included in the tour and we paid 130 MAD per person. Ismaal had no problem waiting outside for us during the entire visit, which we really appreciated. We would, however, like to mention one point of feedback regarding the driving. On several occasions, Ismaal was using his phone while driving, for example sending messages or recording voice messages in his own language which were unrelated to the tour. We understand that communication may sometimes be necessary during a long journey, but we would have preferred him to avoid using his phone while driving. The route itself was beautiful and very varied. We travelled through the Atlas Mountains, the Ziz Valley, the Dades Gorge and visited Aït Ben Haddou before continuing to Marrakech. We also appreciated the different stops along the way. We visited a cooperative where products are made from roses, saw how argan oil is produced, and visited a local family where Moroccan carpets are made by hand. These stops gave us a nice opportunity to see some traditional Moroccan crafts and learn more about local Moroccan products and traditions. The tour was all-inclusive and we received plenty of water throughout the journey, which was very welcome in the August heat. One small point to clarify is that water during dinner was not included, although we had been told by text message that water was included. This is obviously not a major cost, but we wanted to mention it as feedback. The other point we would like to mention concerns the desert camp. Before booking, we were given Unique Desert Camp as the example, with “or similar” mentioned. We completely understand that “or similar” means the exact camp cannot always be guaranteed. However, we stayed at Nomad Luxury Camp, and personally we did not feel that it was quite at the same level of luxury as the Unique Desert Camp that had been presented to us beforehand. We mentioned this to Ismaal during the trip, and he explained to us that Nomad Camp was the only camp with air conditioning. However, after looking into this ourselves, we found that this does not appear to be the case, as other luxury camps in the area also offer air conditioning. The air conditioning in our tent was definitely appreciated in the August heat, but we feel that the difference between the originally proposed camp and the camp we received could have been communicated more clearly beforehand. The tour is not the cheapest option, but taking into account the private transportation, accommodation, meals, water, camel ride and the different places we visited, we felt that the overall experience was worth the price. Overall, we had a good experience with Camel Trekking Morocco Tours and would recommend them, especially for travellers looking for a private tour from Fes to Marrakech. With a little more consistency regarding the accommodation, the experience could be even better. Please note that I had personally called both the desert camp and the accommodation at Dades Gorge beforehand, before you arrived, to instruct them to provide you with water for your dinner. We are addressing why this instruction wasn't fully executed directly with our local partners to ensure total consistency for all future guests. Desert Camp Explanation: We completely understand your initial disappointment regarding the camp switch, and we want to provide you with a fully transparent explanation of what happened: Unique Desert Camp had no other guests booked for that specific night. Because there were no other bookings, the camp refused to accommodate a single group. In the deep desert, luxury tent air conditioning units run on heavy-duty fuel-powered generators rather than standard grid electricity, Unique Desert Camp does not run these heavy fuel generators for only 3 guests. The Choice of Nomad Luxury Camp: Unlike the first option, Nomad Luxury Camp already had other guests staying that night. Because the camp was fully operational for multiple groups, they were willing and able to run their generator-powered air conditioning, ensuring your family had a cool tent in the intense August heat. However, we fully agree with you that this change and the technical reasons behind it should have been communicated to you clearly at least one day before, rather than during the journey. We are glad that the journey through the Atlas Mountains, the gorges, and the traditional cooperatives remains a beautiful memory for your family, and that you found the tour worth every penny.
