Remember the southern seasons: spring (September–November) and autumn (March–May) bring the most pleasant weather. Summer is warm but can be unpredictable — Melbourne is famous for "four seasons in one day." Winters are cool and grey.
Getting Around
Melbourne's iconic trams cover the city, with a free tram zone in the centre; a Myki card covers trams, trains and buses. The CBD is very walkable. For the Great Ocean Road and Phillip Island, organised tours handle the long drives.
