Awesome Time

We went horse back riding. They did such a good job explaining everything, and picking horses. Also, amazing job at keeping nervous riders calm and helping them get used to everything. I got to ride Ricky. He was a gentle giant with a big heart and some opinion. He was awesome. Thank you so much Jess for leading us, and to Megan and Courtney for helping us along the way. You ladies were awesome.

Good guides but a lot of waiting around. Disappointing experience given the reviews.

Be aware, you have to pay an additional $25/pp at check in. The price was definitely not worth the experience. No cameras allowed and the photographer was no where to be seen during the 2 hrs we were there. The guides were ok, there was a lot of sitting and waiting around. Just under a 2 hr experience to complete 8 ziplines. The longest is about 1/2 mile. I would have been extremely disappointed if we did the day pass. My kids 13 and 16 could not get out of there fast enough. Disappointed overall.

Great experience

Very friendly staff. Great experience. Fun zipline runs with a couple of UTV rides in between lines. More stairs than expected but well maintained with most of them being concrete. Would do it again.

Information I wish we’d known before booking - review of zip line course only

Here is all of the details I wish we’d know before booking the zip line tour in case this helps someone else reading this review. The Good Nice facility and the zip line guides were great and very helpful. The equipment seemed well cared for and the safety of participants was a priority. Check-in - We expected to sign a waiver, but the requirement for a government issued ID for any participant 18 or over was not explained anywhere in the information we received by email after booking online. One person in our party had a photo of their ID which they accepted and I had my drivers license. They finally just had the third person sign something since they did not have ID with them or a photo. Transportation - The Wild Canyon has a shuttle you can take to and from your resort for an additional charge. We took an Uber and our driver initially got lost, but did get us there, and fortunately was very nice about it. You cannot book an Uber on the way back. It will come up as no available drivers. We planned to take the wild Canyon shuttle to get back for this reason. Be aware of that transportation back on their shuttle is at limited times. It only departed at three times a day - noon, 3:30 pm and closing the day we were there. We did not want to wait around for over an hour and didn’t plan on doing a second activity. Wild Canyon arranged a private taxi for us after we complained about waiting around for over an hour for the shuttle. It was around $10 more and took 30 minutes to arrive. Thankfully, we brought enough cash to cover this as I do not think the taxi driver would’ve accepted a credit card . Having your own four-wheel vehicle to drive yourself to and from is ideal since it is located off paved roads. We saw several families with their own transportation, and that seems to be the best way to get there and back if possible. Zip lining - This is a very strenuous course, which includes walking up stairs. You either need to bring your own water bottle or purchase water at the beginning of the course. There is filtered water for refills on the course. You must carry your own pulley for the zip line which is heavy. We experienced a great zip lining course in Costa Rica and they automatically stopped you at the bottom of each line. This course was different and you have to manually break your speed on the Wild Canyon course. This requires some upper body strength and the ability to manipulate your pulley in a back-and-forth motion. If you don’t break soon enough, you will crash into the platform at the bottom and if you break too soon you will get stuck before the end of the zip line. It was difficult to gauge how fast you should go and more than one person on our tour got stuck and had to pull themselves the rest away across the line or the course instructors would rescue you. I would recommend this course for anyone who is in very good shape and has previous experience zip lining experience.

Lots of steps

The zip lines were great but they don't tell you about the hundreds of steps between them. Everyone was very courteous and helpful. Felt very safe.

Staff is inadequetly trained for safe operation

By way of introduction I am experienced mountaineer with 45 years of experience leading both rock and glacier climbs. We were issued sit harnesses with two locking carabiners. There are two type of locking biners: one is self locking, the other requires screwing a barrel nut on the threads on the gate to lock the gate from opening. The sit harness I was issued had the manual locking biners. I watched as the 'guide' attached me to the practice pulley. I had to ask the guide to lock the gate. In fact the biner was faulty and would not lock (i.e. the biners were not checked to see if they were operational prior to be used by the public). I was told it was not necessary. I said I will not proceed without a properly locking biner. I was given another one. I had to tell the guide to lock both biners. It's clear to me this was not a part of their routine. I appreciate they had a guide at both ends of the cable, but I had to repeatedly tell each new 'guide' to lock the biners. Locking biners are required for this application. If they are required, they need to be LOCKED EVERY TIME. When leading climbs, it was common practice that I check every knot and every locking biner every time for every climber on my rope and they checked mine. This is standard safety protocol. For normal operation an unlocked biner isn't likely to cause a problem. But there could be fatal consequences during an anomaly. 100' in the air going 50 mph - I want all the safety I can have. The manual locking biners need to be retired. The staff needs to be retrained to examine every biner prior to use to verify proper operation. Even self locking biners can stick. They appeared to be under staffed when I was there. We waited up to 15 minutes for a guide to arrive at the other side of the zip line. They also had a cart break down and no one available to bring up another. On the other hand I observed the staff was very cautious. They were watching out for all the participants. Making sure all were hydrated and not over exerting themselves. My conclusion is the staff is trying to do the right thing. Management is not staffing to safe levels. Retraining is required for this to be a safe activity.

Fun zipline adventure but don't expect much for the rest of the park.

I have done the zipline with Cabo Adventure last year so this time I wanted to try something different so I chose Wild Canyon. It is located pretty close to Cabo so getting there was easier if you have a car that doesn't mind driving on offroad (typical Cabo unpaved road). Cabo Adventure will take you to their location close to Mira Flores. The experience was very different from that of Cabo Adventure. It is hard to say which is good as they are so different. - There is a lot less walking involved compared to Cabo Adventure. - No lunch provided. - Staff are friendly but not overly engaging. Often times you just wait at the station until one of the staff shows up whereas with Cabo Adventure, there was a team of people with you all the time and more engaging. Cabo Adventure was definitely very concerned about the safety and would double check everything all the time. This is not to say Canyon was not safe. - Staff weren't begging for tips which I liked it a lot and ended up leaving a hefty in the tip box. Cabo Adventure would pester until you literally give them a tip. This seems to be a common practice for Cabo Adventure. Perhaps that's the only way they can make money. - Photo. Cabo Adventure tried hard to sell photos. Again Canyon doesn't push anything to you which I liked. - Many of ziplines are designed for two or three people so you don't get to ride solo other than a few of them. Both companies are great and if you have to judge solely based on the zipline excitement level, I would rank Cabo Adventure higher than Wild Canyon. Try both and see which one you like better.
