På denna turné utforskar vi det travla området Georgetown. Detta område består av väletablerade specialiserade basarer, med små slingrande gator, lager, täckta grossistmarknader, gator och butiker. Ursprungligen kallade "Black Town", kom området upp i slutet av 1600-talet efter grundandet av Fort St. George. Lokala människor bosatte sig här för att handla och göra affärer med fortet. En del av Black Town var utplattad på 1700-talet för att ge ett öppet område utanför Fort St George. Residenterna i Blacktown återuppgjorde strax utanför det öppna området, i det som heter New Black Town. I mitten av 1800-talet användes det öppna området (gamla Black Town) för att bygga den stora byggnaden i Madras High Court. 1910, när kung George besökte Indien, namngavs Blacktown Georgetown. Idag fortsätter Georgetown att vara ett upptaget marknadsområde, som säljer allt under solen: armband, tyger, frukt, grönsaker, kryddor, brevpapper, smycken mm

Our guide was friendly, weaving in history about the British East India Company and the Armenian Church. It’s crowded and loud, but the raw energy and hidden heritage gems make it an unforgettable experience.

NOTHING....the meeting point as stated in the booking confirmation was changed...even a policeman did not know where the location was. The guide took me down 1 part of the market and then told me the rest would not be open...he then took me on a walk through parts of George town...parts of it was scary...at 1 point we went down stairs and under an isolated dingy and flooded bridge. As for the water and snacks that was part of the package...I recieved nothing...what a rip off
