Olav Tryggvason var konung i Norge mellan 995 och 1000 e.Kr. och grundade Trondheim år 997. Han är känd för att bygga den första kristna kyrkan i Norge. För dem som har läst gamla isländska sagor nämns Olav ofta.
Du promenerar längs Munkegata förbi imponerande Stiftsgården, norra Europas största träpalats och officiella kungliga residens sedan 1906. Din resa fortsätter genom charmiga smala gator där du ser eleganta parker, medeltida kyrkor och den historiska stadsdelen vid vattnet med sina färgglada lagerlokaler som går tillbaka hundratals år.
Stiftsgården är Royal Residence i Trondheim. Det byggdes mellan 1774 och 1778 för Lady Cecilie Christine Schøller. Hon var änka av chamberlain Stie Tønsberg Schøller, en rik grossist och näringsidkare. Hon var också en framträdande fixtur av stadens sociala elit. Den barockstiliga byggnaden har mer än 100 rum och är det största träpalatset i Nordeuropa.
Längs vägen får du lära dig om Trondheims förödande brand 1681 och efterföljande barockrekonstruktion, upptäcka Gamla Stans bro som kallas lyckans port och skymta Kristianstens fästning uppe på sluttningen.
Efter den stora elden 1681 byggdes Kristiansteens fästning på kullen för att hålla koll på staden. Den hade också en strategisk militärposition och hjälpte till att rädda staden från erövring av Sverige år 1718. Under andra världskriget övertogs nazisterna, som genomförde 23 norska patrioter inuti den. Byggnaden är nu ett museum, som inkluderar en fängelsehål som är öppen för att se. Tour itself was good. App was a pain. Could not get the toute to display. Enjoyed the tour though.
It was not a good experience to book the self-guided Audio Trondheim tour "Inner Circle" through Tripadviser: It was very complicated with codes and another app that you had to download (VoiceMap). I did all this the night before, but when I wanted to start the following day in Trondheim, it did NOT WORK! I was quite frustrated as I had already paid for the service and was under time pressure (cruise ship). So I paid a second time, and I paid DIRECTLY on VoiceMap. This worked out well and I still got some explanations about the main attractions of Trondheim... Actually, it would be a good way to learn about a new city on a walk, but please don't be so complicated.

A great way to explore the city on your own but guided by this audio tour. Very reasonable price. Easy to download and follow. All 4 of us enjoyed the best highlights of the city.
Great tour. Close to my hotel, and it gave me a basic history of the city. I bought both VoiceMap tours in Trondheim, and they was very informative and good.
We didn't have long in port, and the self guided tour was great. The directions, time and information were all good. Very easy to listen too.

I was a bit concerned about a self-guided tour but it was really simple to use. It even got us back on track when we took a wrong turn. The tour helped us to learn about some of the best parts of Trondheim.
No memories. The app was too complicated to download the trip. Very frustrating! I won't be recommending this to anyone.

My wife and I downloaded the app the day before our tour of Trondheim. The download of the app and the audio was straight forward. On the day of our audio tour we followed the instructions to the starting point, but they were setting up for a festival and we couldn’t get close. The directions kept saying that we were 4 meters away. But because the entire area was fenced off we couldn’t get any closer. It was very frustrating to be that close and not be able to start the audio. Finally my wife found a prompt that read “force start " and when she did the audio started. Then repeatedly while following the audio our “gps” tracker” would drift off the track and a voice would come up and say “all who wander are not lost, please check your map and return to the route”. We knew that we were on the track. It was the gps that showed us to be off the route. Very annoying. At the end of the route the audio thanked us for choosing to use them. It would have been nice for the audio to have an option to select to guide us back to the starting point.
