Traditionell Zanzibar Cooking Class inklusive Spice Tour

Beskrivning

Very traditional and primitive. We went to a communal spice farm where we walked around an got introduced to various spices. Then to a cemented floor covered by thatched roof where we sat on a mat in the ground. The cooking was in a charcoal portable stove. The food was excellent and very fresh. The water she used for cleaning came out of a plastic bucket. The lady was making every effort to clean up but no running water. I did not get sick even that she washed the dishes in the water from the bucket. My friend was afraid to eat/try the food because she was already stomach sick I enjoyed it and will try some of the recipes but the qualities were approximate and not measured We also had hens with their chicks visiting three times It was memorable experience
This was a lovely experience! We had an on-time pickup. We enjoyed exploring, learning, smelling, and tasting the spices of Mtausa Spice Farm. And even more we enjoyed cooking as a group; our dishes turned out great! My only suggestion is that the listing be updated to say “hotel pickup for a fee, if outside of Stonetown” there was a bit of confusion with if it was included or not in the beginning. All said, we enjoyed the experience, and I would recommend.

Zanzibar, though 80% Muslim, could not have been more welcoming to us for the Christian holiday of Christmas. We ate out on the streets all the time, for dinner also, and the two cooking classes we did, one at a Spice Farm and one in Stone Town, were the best. All great people and great fun. Maru Maru Hotel was in the perfect location, in Stone Town, and the rooms, view, food, were great and the staff were unbeatable. Really, they were. Mark Ross
I had a very competent and knowledgeable guide. Together with the employees of the farm I learned a lot about the local spices and their histories. I was allowed to try coconut climbing, got to try spices and fruits directly from the tree and the cooking was really nice. They explained a lot about the cooking, let me join in and were open to any questions I would have. One star missing for false description though: we did not harvest anything we would use for our cooking. Everything was already waiting for cooking once I arrived.
We laughed and learned a lot about local wildlife and their methods with our guide speaking good French. It is recommended
We enjoyed the Spice Farm....the cooking class was interesting but maybe a home, not a boarding house would be better for the cooking class! People came and left during the experience! Would consider a different environment!
My wife and I visited Zanzibar after our safari but had been in touch with Lukman ahead of time. One day we visited Mnemba Atoll and went snorkeling for the first time. We had a great time! On our second day, we did the spice tour, cooking class (our highlight which I highly recommend), and the Stonetown walking tour. Lukman and team were responsive and catered to our needs, especially in arranging travel from One part of the island to another. Definitely recommend considering any Zanzibar tours with Splash.
We had a good day out with Lukman. They picked us up from our hotel at Pongwe on the other side of the island for minimal extra cost. The spice tour was great, really interesting to see and smell all the spice plants. The cooking class food was delicious, it took place very authentically outside under a canopy, and we made the food sitting on a large floor matt. However there were long periods where we were sitting around waiting for the food to cook, and the local guide and chef (not Lukman) did not really offer much information or chat to us during these times. Not like other cooking classes we have been to. However then Lukman took us on a free mini tour of Stonetown (which we had not arranged for) before he drove us back to Pongwe. Overall a good day out but the cooking class bit could be improved.
We did 3 tours with Splash Tours which was totally unplanned. We just happened to walk past their office which was close to our hotel in Stone Town. We did the spice tour with a cooking class, tour of stone town & prison island. Our guide Hasan took us on the spice tour with cooking class & a tour of stone town. He was very friendly, helpful and informative. The cooking class was loads of fun and the food made was delicious. The prison island tour with Lukmaan was great and seeing the giant tortoises was amazing. The snorkeling around prison island was also great fun. Overall wonderful experience with lovely people. I would highly recommend them to anyone traveling to Zanzibar
