Tokyo: Ghost and Dark Tales, Urban Legends & Cemetery Night

Disappointing and misleading — not what was advertised We booked the Tokyo: Ghost and Dark Tales, Urban Legends & Cemetery Night Tour expecting a genuinely eerie, spine-chilling evening of paranormal lore and urban legends. Unfortunately, it fell completely flat and felt like a massive letdown, especially compared to ghost and dark history tours we have taken in other major cities. Lacked Atmosphere and Scares: The tour was completely devoid of suspense, ghost stories, or chilling urban legends for nearly the entire duration. Rather than diving into dark folklore, supernatural encounters, or macabre historical events, the narrative felt more like a generic city walking tour with random trivia. Rushed Cemetery Visit: The only part of the tour that remotely matched the title was a rushed 15 minutes spent in a cemetery at the very end. By that point, it felt like an afterthought tacked on just to justify the tour's name. Mismatched Content: To be fair, the guide was polite and shared some interesting, knowledgeable facts about Tokyo's general history and culture. However, that is not what anyone signs up or pays for on a dedicated "Dark Tales and Urban Legends" tour. If you are looking for an immersive, atmospheric ghost tour with actual chills and deep dives into Tokyo's haunting legends, this is definitely not it. The concept has potential, but the execution needs a serious overhaul. Would not recommend.

Fun and very insightful tour. Great way for us to experience our Tokyo trip and highly recommend it. The guides Shimon, Erika , and Uta are great and made sure to make everyone feel comfortable.

Shimon our guide was super friendly and gave good meeting instructions. He told us some interesting stories about the area of Shibuya in olden times and how it was controlled by the mafia at one time. Unfortunately our tour was interrupted by torrential rain but Shimon was kind enough to organise us a taxi to get to the cemetery to save any further walking and us getting soaked. The cemetery was intriguing at night and the size of some of the grave sites is impressive and Shimon was able to tell us about the history of certain families and individuals buried their and how death, funerals and burial are handled in Japan which was interesting and different to our western culture. The only thing we would have liked more of is ghost/scary tales - whilst the stops were interesting we were expecting a slightly higher ‘scare factor’ from the tours title. I gave Shimon this feedback at the end of the tour and he took it on board and will review for future participants.

This is a hard review to write because our guide was very lovely and friendly. However, the tour we got wasn't what was advertised nor what was indicated in other glowing reviews. We met up with the guide at 7.30pm and we started walking towards the cemetery. Apart from telling us which wards we were moving into and the names of some streets not much information was given. About half an hour in I asked where the first story would get told. We were told when we got to the cemetery. We then continued for another 1/2 hour. I was wondering why we didnt begin closer to the cemetery at this point. We got to the cemetery and recieved two ghost stories(not local stories) back to back in the space of maybe 5 or 10 minutes. And that was it for the stories we were told on the tour. We were then guided through the cemetery in the dark and the guide kept being surprised by what she found or unable to give us more information because she couldn't read the gravestones in the dark. She even joked she really needs to visit the cemetery more often. At this point she walked us down to some trendier sections of Tokyo and explained some of the wards and told us about some sites or resteraunts to come back and visit in the day. But we really didn't get any more stories. I tried to make the most of it and ask some questions- some of which she could answer. When we said goodbye we were handed some ai generated comics of the two ghost stories we were told and wished her fairwell. All in all, I was rather dissapointed and for the cost of the tour I had expected more of what was advertised. I really don't like writing negative reviews especially given how nice the guide was, however I feel this review needs to be written.

Haru was an amazing tour guide and we had so much fun. We really enjoyed walking around Shibuya and the cemetery just outside the city. I would strongly recommend this tour and Haru is a great person to lead the way.

Erika was a great guide who made us feel super welcome and cared for, and told us a lot about Japanese culture! Definitely worth the trip, loved it!! :)
