This tour is one reason why people love but also hate Morocco. The price was ok for Europeans paying given the long distances and the little lunch. As many other tours, there were mandatory stops at tourist traps where locals had the audacity to try and charge £8 for a keyring - that sort of place. And then shortchange you. So it really irritated me. The tour guide did nothing to help. Lunch was ok, if you were vegetarian or had any allergy you’d go hungry as no one bothered to make any accommodations for requirements. In this day and age that’s unacceptable! The kasbah and oasis were nice - another tourist trap of a 5 euro donkey ride - don’t expect change, even for a tenner! Once the money leaves your purse is gone! And the oasis guide also wanted to be tipped , The actual tour guide was acting like a lunatic - kept fighting with the other tour guide (who was in full Moroccan outfit and seemed to be keen to be with my group who spoke Russian) and complaining to us, the poor tourists trying to have a good time, about his colleague. It was the most awkward thing I ever experienced and I travel a lot! Without any warning at the end of the day - mid highway!- I was changed to another mini van as the entire group was going to another town for visit - and in my new group the driver and another driver had an altercation which culminated in 20 min of a police officer going over their mutual claims. So I’m not giving high marks here. The tour company contact details on the web are wrong, as they are wrong on Expedia, where I booked. Took me 4 phone numbers to find someone as I wanted to ask if the tour was happening since I heard nothing at all since booking and getting an email (like a question: “are you vegetarian ma’am would have been nice!”) Driver was 20 min late to pick me up too.
Taroudant is a charming little town to discover. The fishing port, in a blue tone, is really typical. You can eat all kinds of fish, gambas, lobsters that fishermen bring back. Cooked in barbecue this is delicious. A walk in the medina is necessary. We were very well advised by the agency and our guide gave us good information on places to visit. Our group was able to stop at the end of the afternoon on the beach of Taghazout, charming small town.
We were forgotten, just by calling after waiting 30 minutes they sent us a taxi and we were shipped off to a group unscheduled. This contained 4 nations so the guide had to tell everything 4 times and accordingly there was little information. The oasis was very nice but the time management was very poor (too much time for lunch) so we only had about an hour in the city afterwards. There was only a short photo stop at the city wall and then in a hurry across the market and that was it. I'm not going to book a trip here anymore. There was no excuse or explanation for us being forgotten.
This was a beautiful trip well worth it. Our driver was kind, courteous and very easy to talk to. He spoke excellent English. The guide we had for the Touradent was excellent. This tour gave us a glimpse of what real Moroccan life can be like. We would highly recommend it
