Tamarindo Beach Surf Lektioner och Smoothie

Randall was amazing! Very nice and the lesson was very informative! We learnt and lot and having the smoothie to finish it off was super refreshing!

Our tour company booked the Kayak and Snorkeling trip to Isle Capitan with Tamarindo Beach Surf By Randall. Our tour company verified the meeting time for us a few days before as it is tide and weather dependent. We met Randall at the Ocho Beach Club at 8:30 am and he took us on a short walk down the beach to meet our guide Joshua. We were provided with life jackets and a short explanation of our morning plans. My husband and I were put in one kayak and Joshua had his own. He helped us guide our kayak into the water and then joined us. We reached the island and Joshua set us up with snorkeling gear right away as conditions were calm. There were so many fish to see and Joshua found 2 types of starfish and an octopus for us to observe. We then walked around the island as he explained some history of it as well as the animals that inhabit it. During our trip from and back to shore he also took the time to provide information about the bay and surrounding area. Randall was waiting for us on shore and walked us back to Ocho Beach Club for a beer or smoothie. Total trip time was about 2.5 hours. We really liked Randall and were so happy with Joshua. Joshua was fun to be with, informative, and kind. He is an asset to the company.

This was such a great experience for our family of 6 (youngest 12). Our instructors and Randall (the owner) were all wonderful to work with. They made the experience super fun, successful and memorable. The restaurant we went to after for the drinks/smoothies (included in lesson) was a great way to wrap the day and had AMAZING food and service as well (with a fantastic set up/view). We highly recommend booking your surf lesson with Tamarindo Beach Surf.

I really wanted to rate this experience higher, but the communication leading up to it was lacking. After booking, we didn’t receive any follow-up details. I ended up reaching out the night before just to confirm the time and meeting location. When I was sent a pin, it didn’t include the name of the location, so we sat in a nearby surf shop—basically as close to the pin as possible—hoping we were in the right place. When no one showed up at our scheduled time, I had to reach out again and was then told to walk out to the beach. A little more proactive communication would have made a big difference. That said, once we got everything sorted out, the experience improved significantly. We were warmly welcomed, given water and rash guards, and received clear instructions. Our family of seven was split into two groups. Three of my kids were paired with another group and had Kiki as their instructor—he was fantastic. They couldn’t stop talking about how great he was, and everyone in that group got up and had a blast. My wife, two daughters, and I were with Joshua. He helped all of us get up, and we did have a good time overall. However, there were several moments where his comments came across as unnecessarily rude—particularly toward the girls when they were simply asking questions. It felt more discouraging than helpful. At the end of the lesson, we were taken to a nice restaurant for the included drinks and told we could use the showers and bathrooms, which we appreciated. However, when my wife and one of my daughters were quickly rinsing off sand, Joshua told them to hurry and not waste water, suggesting they shower at home. If expectations had been communicated upfront—something like “please keep it brief”—that would have been completely understandable. As it was, the interaction felt a bit abrupt and unnecessary. Overall, this was a great experience and a good value. With clearer communication beforehand and a bit more professionalism in tone during the lesson, this easily could have been a five-star experience.

Amazing surfing experience for first timers! Randall’s team was amazing teaching us and we all got up several times! Our Kids’s eyes were sparkling and their confidence was through the roof. 5 out of 5 for Randall and his crew!

My family had a great experience from start to finish with Randall and his friendly crew. Randall was eager to share information on the way to and from Tamarindo Beach from the hotel, which was a 45 minute drive. His staff were fun, informative, and enthusiastic. There were two staff helping my family of four. They got us ALL up on the board, riding appropriate beginner waves, and at no time were we over our heads. They cheered us on and we maxed out our time in the water. The lesson finished with a complimentary smoothie at a beach restaurant. The bonus was that we got an unexpected extra hour in Tamarindo to shop around before heading back to the hotel. That made for a great day and was a highlight of our vacation!

We had an amazing experience with these surfing lessons! The instructor was incredibly friendly, patient, and knowledgeable, making the whole experience fun and confidence-boosting from the very start. They explained everything clearly, from safety and ocean awareness to technique and balance, and gave personalized tips that really helped me improve. The equipment was in great condition, and the lesson was well organized and relaxed while still being professional. A great experience and totally worth it.

We took a surf lesson in Tamarindo with Abel and had the best time. He was incredibly patient and kept the experience fun, even when I started getting frustrated. He explained everything in a way that actually made sense and never made us feel pressured. His whole family was on the beach cheering us on, making the whole experience feel so welcoming. Water and rash guards provided!

Randall is AMAZING! He, his wife, his daughter, their cute dog Honey, and their sweet surf instructor. Can't say enough! They made us comfortable, ensured we had all the amenities we needed, and were willing to tailor the whole experience to exactly what we wanted to do. Highly recommend choosing Randall for your next visit!

We were fortunate enough to get booked with Randall for our first snorkeling experience! He was kind enough to show us around town even before starting our excursion where he haves us some history of Costa Rica. Once we arrived we were guided to island Capitán where we snorkeled through the reefs and explored sea life. Upon returning he offered to stop for some traditional coffee that although was not part of the tour he made an extra effort to make our experience one of a kind. He hope to one day return and take some surfing lessons with this company! Highly recommend if you want an authentic tour through the Costa Rican waters!
