Hwaseong fästning är en imponerande struktur från den senare delen av Joseon-dynastin (1392-1910). Fästningen byggdes som en visning av kung Jeongjos filiala fromhet gentemot sin far.
En Hwaseong Haenggung var ett tillfälligt palats där kungen och kungafamiljen drog sig tillbaka till under ett krig. Hwaseong Haenggung Palace är det största av dessa, som används av Joseon-kungarna sedan kung Jeongjos tid. Detta palats används inte bara som ett skydd under krig utan också kung Jeongjo stannade här under resor för att tillbe vid sin fars grav.

We walked slowly through the walls and visited the palace. Our guide, Tian, is very knowledgeable and teaches us about drama, history, and various aspects of Suwon Hwaseong. I definitely recommend going on the tour rather than going on your own!

Matthew was a terrific guide, very informative on all things history. The fort was interesting and I really enjoyed the smaller palace which had physical displays showing a few aspects of royal life in a number of rooms. The area is also very beautiful. The final part of the trip - the martial arts display was excellent. It was a good half day.
