Vi börjar vår tur på Riva, Splits strandpromenad. Genom bronsporten går vi in i palatsets källare. De välvda källarna är fortfarande mycket välbevarade efter mer än 1700 år. Fortsätt sedan till den sakrala delen av palatset, Perystilen och katedralen, som en gång var Diocletianus mausoleum. Det hedniska Jupitertemplet omvandlades till ett dopkapell på 700-talet. Vi går längs Cardo, den tidigare huvudgatan i palatset, och beundrar Golden Gate. Sedan fortsätter vi genom gamla stan, till Pjaca och fruktmarknaden. Förundras över det rika utbudet på Fiskmarknaden och, om du så önskar, unna dig en kaffe eller en drink på Prokurative Square, där vår vandringstur slutar. Du kommer att få höra många intressanta anekdoter och berättelser om staden och dess invånare. Upptäck sevärdheterna i denna stad på din fritid och lär dig mycket bakgrundskunskap på samma gång.

Vi börjar vår tur vid Riva, strandpromenaden i Split. Där kommer jag att ge dig lite allmän information om staden och vår rundtur.
Efteråt tittar vi på palatskomplexet. Om det inte finns någon mässa eller evenemang och sevärdheterna är öppna, besöker vi palatsets källare, katedralens inre och Jupitertemplet tillsammans. Inträde ingår för dessa tre attraktioner.
Vi går in i källaren i palatset genom den södra porten. Källarna, liksom palatset, byggdes för mer än 1 700 år sedan och är mycket välbevarade. Här får vi ett mycket gott intryck av palatsets dimensioner. Entré till källarrummen ingår.
Peristylen var den heliga mötesplatsen på Diocletianus tid. Här visade han sig för sina undersåtar och lät sig dyrkas som son till den romerska guden Jupiter.
Jupitertemplet är nu ett dopkapell med ett vackert kapsyltak, vars utformning påverkade renässansarkitekterna i Dalmatien.
Vestibulen var ingångsområdet till Diocletianus privata kammare.
Splits katedral var under en tid den sene kejsar Diocletianus mausoleum. Under kristnandet försvann kistan och kejsarens jordiska kvarlevor och det hedniska mausoleet blev en kristen katedral.
Den norra porten till palatset var den viktigaste porten under romartiden. Härifrån ledde vägen till staden Salona, huvudstaden i den romerska provinsen.
Från norra porten fortsätter vi längs palatsmurarna till själva centrum av gamla stan, Narodni Trg och vidare till den tidigare fruktmarknaden, Voćni Trg. Detta distrikt utvecklades väster om palatset sedan medeltiden.
Pjaca har varit stadens centrum sedan medeltiden och är det fortfarande. Här finns många gamla venetianska palats och det gamla stadshuset i nygotisk stil.
Voćni trg brukade vara marknadsplatsen för frukt. Idag finns det ett monument över en av de viktigaste renässansförfattarna i Split, Marko Marulić.
Fiskmarknaden i Split är en attraktion. Intill ligger svavelbaden. Diocletianus visste redan att svavelbad kan ge lindring för reumatism och andra sjukdomar. Förresten, lukten av svavel är anledningen till att det inte finns några flugor på fiskmarknaden.
Marmontova är en livlig affärs- och gågata i Splits gamla stadsdel. Den byggdes av fransmännen under Napoleons regeringstid i början av 1800-talet.
Vi avslutar vår rundtur på detta vackra torg som påminner om Markusplatsen i Venedig. Många kaféer och restauranger inbjuder dig att dröja kvar.

My 11 year old said Ivan was best tour guide! It was highly engaging and so much fun!
Ivan gave my wife and I a fantastic tour of the important sights in the old city in Split. From the minute he introduced himself to us in the hotel lobby to the time he left us, after an excellent ice cream, it was an incredible experience. Ivan is very friendly, engaging, and extraordinarily knowledgeable about the history of the city, the region, and the country; no surprise since he is a Professor of History. We have had tours in many cities around Europe and the World, and we would give this one top marks. We would have no hesitation in recommending Ivan to anyone.
We had a 2.5 hour private walking tour with tour guide Ivan. He was excellent. Knowledgeable and had lots of fun facts. A very enjoyable tour I would strongly recommend.

Three unforgettable days are unfortunately coming to an end. Our club consists of 11 men, aged 40 to 78. 9 members were able to participate. We entrusted the organization of our trip to Split to LAGIDA, Dinah Roguljic. We booked the flight and the hotel ourselves, but the support from LAGIDA began right here. The "Hotel Marmont Heritage" in the old town of Split was already the first very positive surprise. Nothing better and more beautiful could have happened to us! The organization of the three days by Dinah Roguljic was perfect and planned down to the smallest detail. The tours were both highly interesting. Whether it was the "Diocletian's Palace" or the day trip to Salona and Klis, both were an unforgettable experience. A 5-hour boat tour with a "private motorboat," organized by Dinah, to the island world off the city of Split, of Dalmatia, including. We were able to enjoy a swimming stop in the "Blue Lagoon" as well as a lunch snack in a small but great harbor restaurant. Competent, courteous, friendly, always helpful, flexible, nice, and highly committed are characteristics that define Dinah and her team. For this, there is only one rating: "Summa cum laude." We booked our tour of Diocletian’s Palace for our first day in Split and it served as the best introduction to the town and its history. This was in no small part down to our guide Tom who was superb. He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and was great fun to chat with, offering us a first hand insight into modern day Croatia as well. We were helped by the time of the year (April) so beat the crowds and but even so, having pre-booked entrance tickets to the more intimate spaces (cellars, Temple of Jupiter, cathedral) made everything smooth - I can imagine it’s a must for high season. When there was a slight glitch with one of the entrance tickets Tom sorted it very professionally and all went to plan. Strongly recommend this private tour and Tom was a delightful 5 star guide.
Dinah took us on a wonderfully informative journey through time through the last millennia. In a private tour, she showed us not only the history of the city's origins, but also the hidden beauties of the historic old town. For example, the exposed cellars of the Diocletian's Palace, about which there were some exciting and surprising anecdotes to tell. Many insider tips on great restaurants where typical Croatian food is still served, as well as many tour recommendations for trips in and outside this beautiful city. Dinah impresses with her super nice nature and expertise in history and culture. Easy to recommend!!! Thank you dear Dinah for this great day. We will definitely come back.
