Splendor of Colonial Singapore Walking Tour med lunch

På den här vandringsturen kastar vi våra tankar tillbaka mer än 200 år till en tid då Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles från British East India Company anlände till Singapore, startade en brittisk handelspost 1819, blev en del av Straits Settlements 1826, och så småningom en separat koloni av den brittiska kronan 1867. Vi kommer att besöka välbevarade strukturer från den georgianska, viktorianska och edvardianska epoken, och ståtliga byggnader i nyklassisk stil, som alla har restaurerats för att visa upp det koloniala Singapores prakt. Vi hyllar våra tidigare kolonialmästare som lämnade efter sig sitt arv av noggrann stadsplanering, sunda rättssystem, bra utbildningssystem, solid infrastruktur, imponerande arkitektur, etc, som verkligen har spelat en betydande roll i utvecklingen av det moderna Singapore. Vid middagstid kommer vi att luta oss tillbaka och njuta av lunch vid Singaporefloden vid Boat Quay, innan vi återupptar vår rundtur i Civic District och Old European Town.

Vår berättelse börjar med hur britterna startade sin handelsstation i Singapore 1819, där de tidiga europeiska bosättarna byggde sina hem, och hur den första anglikanska kyrkan kom att byggas 1836.
Vi utforskar de 2 koloniala byggnaderna som nu utgör National Gallery Singapore, nämligen den före detta kommunala byggnaden (senare omdöpt till City Hall Building) och den före detta högsta domstolens byggnad. Gå in i kammaren där Lord Louis Mountbatten accepterade japanernas kapitulation den 12 september 1945, fängelsecellerna i den tidigare högsta domstolen, etc.

Excellent. Ping (our guide) was charming, approachable and very knowledgeable. She made the whole tour interesting and relatable, taking us to some places that we would not have found if we had been independent tourists.
I couldn't fault this tour- really well researched and explained, lots of interesting information and we went into buildings that told the story of Singapore which are free for the public to go into but as a tourist you'd never know it! Ping finds plenty of seated areas either in shade or air-con to tell the story, so you never feel too hot or tired. I wish I'd done this tour the first time I came to Singapore!
The tour was very well organised by our tour guide Ping. She is very knowledgeable about Singapore and its history, and we learnt so much during our time together. I would highly recommend her tour, and we will definitely book her other tour options when we are back in Singapore.

Ping was an outstanding guide. She remembered everyone’s names, came prepared with wet wipes and umbrellas, was energetic and enthusiastic and knew her subject backwards.
