Route of the Sillar, är ett enormt stenbrott med sten av vulkaniskt ursprung, som bildar spektakulära klyftor, liknande de i Petra i Jordanien. Du kan också se väggstäver och uppskatta sättet att utvinna stenarna.

Vårt äventyr börjar med upphämtning på ditt hotell och sedan transfer till den traditionella staden Yanahuara, mycket känd för sina kvastbågar, en vit vulkanisk sten typisk för kolonial arkitektur i Arequipa. Denna utsiktspunkt ger en exceptionell utsikt över staden Arequipa. På samma sätt kan vi därifrån beundra de tre mest kända snötäckta bergen i regionen: Chachani, Pichu Picchu och Misti.
Nära staden Arequipa finns ett av de mest imponerande naturlandskap du kan tänka dig. Det är en skatt för Arequipeño-folket där den ikoniska sillaren (den vita vulkanstenen som används i Arequipas koloniala konstruktioner) utvinns. Byggarna förklarar sina arbetstekniker och användningen av vulkansten på samma plats.
Efter en guidad rundtur i stenbrottsområdet och observation av det hantverksmässiga arbetet med denna sten, fortsätter vi vårt besök i serpentinravinen Culebrillas, som ligger 15 minuter från Añashuaycos stenbrott, vi börjar vår promenad på cirka 20 minuter, Culebrillas Det är ett imponerande område som sticker ut för sina kurvlinjiga formationer fulla av charm och magi (vandringen är lite ojämn) kommer vi att observera några hällristningar impregnerade på ravinens väggar. Vi kommer att klättra en sluttning i cirka 5 minuter. I slutet kommer vi att observera Apachetas, stenhögar som representerar en mystisk tradition för de lokala invånarna. Vi kommer att ge oss ut på rörlighet, returen tar cirka 40 minuter att nå stadens centrum.

Upphämtning sker endast i det historiska centret, om ditt boende är långt borta kommer mötesplatsen att vara vid dörren till katedralen på Plaza de Armas i Arequipa.

Magali was our guide. She did a great job. Be prepared to walk. Could have used more time at the statues/quarry to see all of it. Some of the walk is uphill. Wear closed toe hiking boots or good athletic shoes. Went in June at 9 am slot and it was hot. Sun screen recommended. Mosquitoes at cabrillas are real!! Van ride was good. Definitely a great short day trip!

Very well run tour. The minibus picked us up at around 6 places in the historic district. It was a bit slow because of traffic. First stop at the look-out point. Then the sillar quarry. Lastly the canyon which was the best of the three. As we are seniors and about double the age of the others, the guide and some of the other travelers had to give a steadying hand through the canyon and up the hill at the end, but it was all good. The petroglyphs were a little lackluster. Altogether a good tour, but not a must-do. The guide worked hard to give us all the information in English and Spanish.

Unique experience to visit the sillar quarry
Quiet and very nice walk, with beautiful landscapes on the way, which allow you to see the volcanoes. In Culebrillas guides are very careful and informative. On the Sillar route, there is a brief explanation and each visitor travels the site on account. Both tours are quite worth it and give a great experience, with very nice photos.

Great tour to see the highlights without taking up an entire day. Easy communication and coordination. We loved it. Tour guide was knowledgeable and had one of the most accurate english/spanish translations I’ve heard.

Delivers great information about the city and its sights. While the tour is held, many historical-cultural data are provided and there are moments for beautiful photographic recordings.

This was an inexpensive tour to see 3 areas and observe the quarry from which Arequipa has been built, with good views of the volcanoes and a short walk in a narrow canyon to see some petroglyphs. Sometimes it felt as though we had too long and sometimes felt hurried but i guess that varies with ones interests.

Great experience, with billingual guide, very helpful and fun opportunity to see look out views of the mountains, try queso helado, explore the pillar route and stone carvings as well as the culebrillas petroglyphs and learn a little more about ancient Andean culture.
