I över 20 år utbildade vakterna här unga orangutanger, som hade blivit föräldralösa eller räddade från fångenskap, hur de kan överleva i naturen. Framgången med detta program har lämnat det omgivande skogsreservatet med en blomstrande befolkning av friska tonåringar och unga vuxna orang utans, som nu avlar i naturen. Programmet har överförts till Matang Wildlife Center, men Semenggoh är fortfarande hem för sina framgångsrika akademiker, semi-wild orang utans och deras barn. De tillbringar större delen av sin tid på att roaming i skogen men kommer ofta tillbaka till centrum för en gratis måltid. Om det är fruktperioden i skogen kanske vissa eller till och med alla inte kommer att äta. Detta i sig är ett bra tecken och ytterligare ett steg på vägen till full rehabilitering. Semenggoh Wildlife Center är hem för semi - wild orang utans där de tränas för att sköta sig själva i sin naturliga omgivning. Vissa eller till och med alla orang utans kanske inte kommer till centrum för att mata (0900hrs / 1500hrs), särskilt om det är fruktperioden i skogen. Turnera start och fortsätt i 20 minuters bilresa till Semenggoh Wildlife Center. Centrumet är det största Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center i Sarawak som etablerades 1975 som en fristad för de skadade och föräldralösa Orang Utans. Dessa djur tränas eller omutbildas för att överleva i sin naturliga livsmiljö. De lär sig hur man foder efter naturlig mat och bygger bon i träden. Det finns emellertid få som aldrig kommer att lära sig sina vilda färdigheter på grund av deras långa koppling till och därmed beroende av människor. Ta en promenad på vandringslederna och försök att upptäcka halvvilda Orang Utans. Det finns utfodringstider planerade varje dag på utfodringsplattformen. Men kom alltid ihåg att centrets huvudsakliga syfte är att återföra dessa djur tillbaka till sin livsmiljö. Låt dig inte bli besviken om du inte ser någon som strövar om djunglarna eller kommer tillbaka för att mata, eftersom det innebär att de kan födda på egen hand och inte behöver mänsklig hjälp.

Lucky to have great weather and to see semi-wild orangutans in their natural habitat. Arriving early is definitely worthwhile, as the orangutans can appear before the scheduled feeding (usually 3pm) and sightings are never guaranteed. i was fortunate to see a few, including a baby. Took the free 103 bus (there was a stop behind the hotel i stayed in, The LimeTree - download KuchingMetro app for the bus live location), got on at about 1230pm, long bus ride about 1.5 hours with many stops but a great way to see the city and suburbs.

Sensational, we opted to take the morning tour and we were not disappointed.. we arrived. Ticketing was easy. We caught the electric buggy down to the bottom of the hill and right then and there a massive orangutan sliding down a tree into his natural environment. It was surreal. It was amazing! It was astonishing... We saw 3 separate orangutang popping in... Absolutely breathtaking.. From what we understood there isn't any guarantee to see the orangutang. The property sits in 650 acres and the orangutang roam freely, the rangers lay out fruit on the ground and that is that.. Today was brilliant

This was definitely the highlight of our stay in Sarawak. There was a lot of waiting around but when you can see orangutans, who really cares? Very well organised although it didn't feel that Semenggoh was open long enough to experience all the walks there, which was a bit weird. Very, very glad we took the tram because the walk to the feeding platform is a long one - especially in the heat. Our driver/guide from Klook was very knowledgeable and pointed out orangutan nests and when branches were moving showing activity. He knew the history as well and explained how the alpha male became the alpha male. He also explained the dynamics of the troop well. We were delighted that a mum and baby showed up. They kept the park open a bit longer so we could see them properly. It was amazing. Then a very steep upward climb to the cafe/giftshop and the tram back to the carpark!

A truly unforgettable experience. I went as part of a World Challenge tour group to Semenggoh in July 2025 and had an amazing time. We saw 8 different Orang Utans feeding. The guide was funny and informative and it was clear that everyone working there took great pride and pleasure in their job. We were lucky though as our guide did highlight that you don’t always see as many, especially in fruiting season when there is less need for the orange utans to come to the feeding stations. Location wise, I can’t really comment because we went on a coach tour but it was only about a 30 minute journey from the centre of Kuching.

Fabulous experience and excellent facility very lucky to to 5 Orangutangs. Best thing i have ever done would full recommend you go. We went during the fruiting season and was advised we might not see any. We waited quietly and it was not long before. The first appeared and then they just kept coming. We even managed to see a very large Orangutang and a shy 3 week baby in the tree. We caught the buggy to the feeding station and return
