Denna byggnad byggdes ursprungligen 1814 och har bytt ägare fler gånger än en sjöman ätit en skål med musselsoppa. Och det beror mest troligt på spökena som hemsöker fogen.
Den här gamla byggnaden har anor från 1815 och under sin storhetstid inrymde den en gång en av de mest populära bordellerna i staden.
Byggd 1749, denna förrevolutionära byggnad är en av de äldsta som fortfarande står kvar i Portsmouth. Under dess grund drev en gång det underjordiska tunnelsystemet som i hemlighet förband många av byggnaderna i Portsmouth.
Gravplatsen sägs vara den största i sitt slag i USA och man tror att över 200 personer från det afroamerikanska samhället begravdes här.
The Rockingham byggdes ursprungligen 1785 och var en gång ett av de mest prestigefyllda hotellen i New England. Den välkomnade presidenter som presidenter Franklin Roosevelt, JFK, Ulysses Grant och författaren Mark Twain.
Det gamla John Paul Jones-huset byggdes ursprungligen 1758 och rymmer fler spöken än en båt i Maine som rymmer hummer. Vissa säger att gamle John Paul Jones dröjer sig kvar i rummet han en gång sov. Andra har sett en arg ande öppna skåp och slå igen dörrar.
Under det senaste århundradet har världsberömda akter prytt dess salar inklusive magikern Harry Houdini, pistolsvingande Buffalo Bill Cody och den smarte mannen Mark Twain. Showerna var så bra att spökena bestämde sig för att stanna kvar.
Bryggeriet är inte bara en av de bästa platserna i Portsmouth för att få en drink och en hamburgare när du är i stan. Det är också hemsökt av ett flirtig nattspöke.

A fun tour! Make sure you have a fully charged phone. Best to do in the cooler morning hours or early evening.
I don’t think this was intended, but I found the ghost tour really campy, in a fun way! For the price, it is 100% worth it, it takes you on a nice loop around downtown Portsmouth.
Super spooky, fun, and surprisingly humorous! Will recommend to family and friends!
What a fun and informative walking tour of Providence Rhode Island. Lots of stories with humor intermingled. I liked that you can stop and start easily to enjoy shops and beverages along the way.
Great tour easily navigated and really fun . Most interesting discoveries that we never would have seen on our own . We would definately do another tour
Paying for the walking tour was easy but getting access to the tour was very frustrating and cumbersome. It wasn't very clear that you needed to download a second app to access the tour.
This was a different spin on a tour throughout the city because it was self guided. We were able to skip around and even stop for browsing in stores and eating, then resuming the tour. The bits about each location was interesting.
I enjoyed the self guided tour through Portsmouth, NH. I did find it a little bit confusing with the directions at times.
This was a fun way to explore the city and to learn a lot about the history of Portsmouth. We learned so much and the the ghost story is, we just added fun! It’s a great way to walk around and learn the history and stop and pause to go in anywhere you want along the way. Just a heads up the bar at the end is permanently closed. Apparently they experience some bad flooding and just couldn’t keep up to code with the bills. Sad. It looked like it would’ve been a fun way to end the tour. I feel for the owners.
For the price this is a great value. Portsmouth has a charming extensive history. This tour provides a guided walking tour of some notable historic buildings that I have certainly missed on previous visits. The haunted aspects provide an effective way to learn local lore, historical importance and focus. Who knew that Portsmouth was integral in the Underground Railroad. The tour is about an hour and an exceptional value. I’ll look forward to more self guided walkntours while I visit other cities!!
