Riviera del Brenta, en välkänd vattenväg mellan Padua och Venedig, är ett intressant panoramaområde ur en historisk, naturlig, konstnärlig och kulturell synvinkel. Det är en naturlig förlängning av Canal Grande och flankeras av pittoreska venetianska byar och omges av ett jordbrukslandskap. De franska och ryska kungafamiljerna, habsburgarna, savojen och till och med Napoleon stannade här och den venetianska adeln valde det som miljö för sina venetianska villor. Här byggde venetianarna magnifika bostäder, omgivna av monumentala trädgårdar, fresker och designade av tidens viktigaste konstnärer som Palladio, Tiziano och Tintoretto.

Villa Pisani i Stra är en senbarock venetiansk villa belägen längs Canale del Brenta (Riviera del Brenta) nära staden Stra, några kilometer från Venedig. Villa Pisani är den mest imponerande, största och mest besökta villan på Rivieran. Den byggdes på en redan existerande byggnad för att fira Pisani-familjens ära, särskilt när Alvise Pisani valdes till doge 1735. Efter slutet av Serenissima , det ägdes av Napoleon, 1814 tog österrikarna över. När Venedig gick med i kungariket Italien 1866 stannade Vittorio Emanuele II där en kort tid och två år senare blev det statens egendom. Sedan slutet av 1800-talet har det varit ett nationalmuseum. Otaliga gäster och viktiga besökare från hela Europa: Tsar Alexander I av Ryssland, Gustav av Sverige, Maria Luigia av Parma och många andra. 1934 träffades Hitler och Mussolini där.

Half-day trip to the Venetian villas from Abano by bus. Our companion was very kind and friendly. A very pleasant trip perhaps just a little too expensive for content.

Interesting ride but I discovered that the same is done at 35 euros less each by the same local operator!

We went on three different tours with lovivo tours and enjoyed them all. This tour takes you to the Rivera along the Breta River. We went to two different villa. The Pisani villa was my favorite but the Widmann Villa was also pretty. It was much smaller. Our tour guide was terrific. I would definitely this tour if you want to enjoy Italy away from the crowds. I think this is a must do.

The Brenta Riviera with its historic villas took us way back in time to the period of the wealthy aristocrats and 18th century art and the time before Napoleon. The gardens and stables and labyrinths and ballrooms were glimpses into a bygone era, quite interesting.
