When I was 17, my parents took me and my siblings to Italy for vacation. When I saw the Sistine Chapel for the first time, I was in complete awe. I am now 49 and have 2 boys, ages 17 and 14. My husband has never been to Italy, so I really wanted to bring my own family to Italy for vacation and a top priority for me was to see the Sistine Chapel again, but this time I wanted a private tour. I had been planning this trip to Italy with my travel advisor, Fabio Ilardi of "Italy Bespoke Tours" since 4/2025. I placed my deposit for the entire vacation on 7/2025. Everything seemed pretty much set with the help of Fabio to include this private tour of the Vatican and Sistine Chapel scheduled for June 2026. Our private driver brought us to the meeting point early before the start time of 9am. About 7 minutes past the meet up time, there was no guide in sight. I then called Bellissima Italy who was the company Fabio booked our private tour with. When I called, the receptionist informed me that I was not on the reservation books. Devastated is not a strong enough word to express how I felt when she said this to me. I then texted Fabio via WhatsApp to ask what happened. Fabio called me on my cell phone and basically explained to me that in all the years he has worked with Bellissima Italy something like this "has never happened". Somehow the company missed my reservation. He explained further that normally he would be very upset with a company when something as catastrophic like this affects his client's vacation, but he said he could not bring himself to be upset since historically Bellissima Italy is an excellent company. Fabio quickly worked with me to reconfigure the day. We were supposed to go to the Pantheon in the afternoon after our morning Vatican and Sistine Chapel tour. He changed our Pantheon tickets to 10am instead of 2pm. He then got word that Bellissima Italy was able to find a guide last minute to do a tour with us at 12:30pm. We hopped into an Uber taxi, went to the Pantheon for an hour then got another taxi to return to the Vatican. Fabio was so kind and reimbursed us the costs of our taxi rides. We met up with our guide, Milena who was just excellent from start to finish. She was so efficient in getting us checked in. Once we entered the Vatican she did a wonderful job giving us so much history on the architecture and the art seen. She had a very calm presence and we did not feel rushed at all. She informed us that she has been doing tours for the past 26 years! She brought life and meaning to all the beautiful pieces seen along the way. I particularly loved how she explained things we should look out for inside the Sistine Chapel before we entered it since there were these nice posters of the Sistine Chapel art in the court yard for tourists to look at before entering. Milena would even show us mosaic art on the ground that many tourists would just walk over and not even realize. I enjoyed how she would highlight pieces like Botero's "Trip to the Ecumenical Council". My boys loved the roundness of the bishop walking down the hill and found that to be entertaining. Bottom line is Milena saved the day! She turned my frown upside down. Because of Milena, I forgive you, Bellissima Italy! I kindly ask that you give Milena an extra paycheck. She so deserves it filling in literally last minute. She saved your site from a really, really sad review posting. Thank you Milena! You are the best! Also, thanks to Bellissima Italy in scrambling last minute. This shows you care about your clients and strive to make things right. I had scheduled a tour of St Peter's Basilica, and this tour is not guided. The tour guide tells you highlights prior to but does not accommodate you.

We know that St. Peter's Basilica is an important part of your experience, that's why we provide priority fast-track access (skipping the security lines) together with a professional introduction by the guide to give historical context before you continue exploring independently inside. This format allows our guests to enjoy the Basilica comfortably and flexibly, especially since the Basilica can unfortunately close suddenly without notice for various reasons (religious ceremonies, papal events, etc.), which would disrupt a full guided tour. We completely understand that some travelers expect a complete guided tour of the Basilica as well, and we truly appreciate you bringing this to our attention — it helps us make our pre-tour communications even clearer so we can better address any differences in expectations upfront. Despite this, I hope you were still able to enjoy the incredible art and history of the Museums and the Sistine Chapel. Great experience! Our guide was very knowledgeable and asked a ton of questions to make sure we saw everything we could. Budget for at least 4 hours to get the full experience and also be prepared for crowds.
