This is an absolute waste of money. The wait time to get your tickets at the Colosseum if you're going on own is 15 minutes and your entry is within 15 minutes. There is also no "special entry point" for self-guided tickets. If you book a group- you'll have to go in with the guide as a group through the designated line. That is the only additional entry point.
Glad we did the self tour. We were able to go at your own pace, but the audio portion is only available on the phone that purchased, so we had to pass around the phone for everyone to hear. The meeting place was vague and just happened to ask the right person in the crowd who we were supposed to meet. Once we found him, it was really easy, just walked us through WhatsApp setup and we were on our way.
We had a great experience with our tour guide. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and explained everything clearly. The tour was well organized, and we really enjoyed it. Highly recommended!
Booking this SELF GUIDED tour through Viator was significantly more expensive than the colosseum ticket alone, yet we found no additional value added. We met up with the Viator person before entering per the guidance. They pointed us in the right direction and told us to stay out of the sun because it was a really hot day. That’s it. The audio guide app that we were told to use was buggy and the information was pretty shallow. Feels like these companies just use bots to buy up all tickets quickly so tourists are forced to go through them.
Do not waste your money. This was a waste of money. We couldn't find the person/guide for tickets. We ended up just going into the line ourselves.
6 of us booked a transport from cruise port to Rome 90 min drive where we were to meet another Viator guide for Colosseum tour. Driver/guide Unaware of road closures in Rome and dropped us too far away from colosseum - we were told we could find our own way or join the rest of the walking tour for an additional 40 euros a person. We ended up taking the subway in Rome on our own but arrived too late for our other Viator self guided tour - lost $320. Request for refund rejected. Had to buy new entry tickets for all 6 of us which was an additional 108 euros. Kind of a tough luck situation and attitude. Very nerve racking being in a foreign country and being dumped off to find our own way. We did take the bus back to the cruise port. Fortunately no issue on way home. We’ve had great luck on other tours. This was very surprising to us. Disappointing.
