Lews was our great guide. He described the plants and animals, we rode among Elan and gazelles, even a zebra ( all wild). The horses were gentle and responsive. Just a beautiful morning in Arusha
What a fun experience! The ride is along a private game reserve- so it's good to keep in mind that you are not in the Serengeti! (Probably not recommended on horseback 😂). The horses were beautiful, sound and well cared for. Sane was a lovely guide- full of information and happy to share some of his own life experiences and culture. It's neat being able to ride up so close to zebras and gazelles- and the babies were so cute! A unique experience and a day well spent.
Lovely that you enjoyed your ride with us, may we ask who did you ride :)? Cheers / Jo Kaskazi Horse Safaris
The location was beautiful and the tour itself was amazing. Unfortunately, the check-out experience completely ruined it. I was asked to pay $180, which I did immediately after finishing the tour. Later, Kaskazi contacted my travel agent and claimed I hadn’t paid at all! I even had to show them a video of me handing the money directly to their staff—an absurd situation just to prove the truth. Riders and equestrians, be warned: while the ride may be enjoyable, the management and payment process are highly untrustworthy. I recommend staying away from this place.
These guys offer horseback safari tours. They can actually organize trips outside the property, but we just rode around the grounds. It’s like a small private reserve with a few species of antelope grazing alongside zebras. We moved at a walking pace, enjoying the scenery. It was my first time on a horse, so the experience was definitely interesting. Still, I realized I feel sorry for horses being used in this kind of business and decided I won’t do it again. The horses looked well cared for, though not particularly cheerful. I even had to switch horses because the first one wouldn’t obey or move. Experienced riders might find this place boring.
Thank you for feedback! Best / Jo
Friendly and flexible clients' approach, friendly laid-back and well-cared horses, a lot of interesting guidance on the way, many animals to see (zebras, diff. antelopes) and the very nice and welcoming experience in general. Highly recommended!
Our safari experience was incredible! From the moment we arrived, the wildlife and landscapes exceeded expectations. The knowledgeable guides made every moment memorable, ensuring we saw a variety of animals in their natural habitats. The accommodations were comfortable and well-maintained, with excellent food and service. We felt completely immersed in nature while enjoying every aspect of the trip. Highly recommend this safari for an unforgettable adventure!
We came to do a 2 hour ride on the Dolly Estate farm. We asked to go without a group, especially because we didn`t want to ride with beginners. They wrote per Mail: “We will make arrangement to set horse ride for your own, please let me know the date you are expecting to do this.» Therefore, we expected to go alone. As we arrived, we found that three beginners, who had no riding experience at all, are going to come on a ride with us. This was very very disappointing. Our guide Lekinyi didn`t really had empathy fo us and didn`t understood our problem. He reacted unfriendly. As I asked him what we can do now, he turned away and ignored me for some minutes. So, I said, maybe we can get a price reduction, because this group ride is not what we had agreed on and booked. Then he said: “Either you pay or you won`t get on the horse.” – I never said I will not pay… Also, he said, that it is not his fault as he is not the one managing the booking, but neither it is mine. I called a day before and asked if it is possible to pay with M-Pesa. I was told that this is possible, and I can do so tomorrow. As I already was on the horse, our guide came and wanted the money. When I told him that I want to pay with M-pesa (as agreed) he said it is not okay. We didn`t have any other options, so then it worked, and I could pay with M-Pesa. But, they used another exchange rate than they wrote us per mail. So, we had to pay a bit more in Tanzanian shillings. Our solution was that another guide came along, so that we could split the group for a short distance so that we could go fast, while the beginners waited with the other guide. He just told them: “Hold the horses and don`t follow.” We were not happy to go with beginners as they don`t know how to control a horse, which is a safety-risk for us too. (For example, they couldn`t hold the distance between the horses which lead to another horse biting mine, which resulted in my horse kicking.) They didn`t get a proper introduction on how to ride. In our opinion the riding style is very harsh – kicking the horse hard (!) means going forward, pulling hard (!) on the reins means stop. Our guide hadn`t had patience with the beginners. Whenever they made a mistake, he got annoyed – but how can they know, if you don`t show them properly and individually? Also, while riding he was often on the phone. When we came back, people came and took away the horses immediately, so we couldn’t even say goodbye. We also couldn’t help to prepare the horses (which we would have liked to do as you get to know the horse and get a feeling for the character of the horse). Most of the horses that were in our group, seemed to us as they resigned and just trot along… We felt sorry for the horses. We were riding on the farm, so it was not pure nature. We often saw a fence or buildings… We would not do it again.
The horseback excursion was nice in itself. A big part of the experience comes down to the chance encounters with animals. In our case, we saw zebras, wildebeests, monkeys, deer, antelopes, and some bird species. However, I have some reservations about the service: our guide, Lekinyi, didn’t even lift his eyes from his phone to say goodbye at the end. Tourists spending $200 each for a couple of hours on horseback might deserve a bit more attention. Moreover, we had to book through a tour operator because we never received a response from the contact form on the website.
Hi there, thank you for your feedback and I’ll pass it onto likini and the crew. Pls let me know what your tour operator charged you as it’s 120 usd per person and not 200 so I worry they overcharged you ? Thanks
The Kaskazi Horse Safari in Arusha National Park is an adventure like no other. Imagine riding through wild, ever-changing terrain—one minute you’re weaving between forests, the next, you’re crossing open plains, with wildlife all around you. Every day was a new thrill, and the nights? Crystal-clear skies packed with stars. It's an experience that sticks with you. The crew running the safari were top-notch. Not only did they take care of everything, but they were genuinely fun to be around. They added a personal touch that made the trip even better. If you’re confident in the saddle, this is a bucket-list trip you can’t miss. If you’re newer to riding, a few lessons beforehand will help you make the most of it. Either way, it’s worth every cent.
Thank you for wonderful words :) hope to have you back.
Only few animals, horses walk very slow. Not a welcoming place for customers. Dis not like the experience.
Hi there, sorry to hear that, never had this feedback before but would like to know what made it not a welcoming place as we do everything to keep our guests feel welcomed and safely looked after on our horse rides! Animals are wild on the estate so numbers therefore can vary and we can never guarantee anything as it’s not a zoo! Also can you pls advise when you rode with us so that I can follow up ? Kind regards / Jo
