A very unique and memorable experience. Pickup was convenient and our guide had drinks and snacks readily available and was both friendly and informative. Our tour was cut short by thunderstorms but we still were able to see a lot in a limited time and thoroughly enjoyed the tour.
Thank you so much for your kind review! We're delighted to hear that your rainforest night walk was such a unique and memorable experience. It's great to know that the pickup was convenient and that your guide helped make the tour enjoyable with drinks, snacks, and informative explanations throughout. Even though the weather shortened the experience due to thunderstorms, we're happy that you were still able to see a lot and make the most of your time in the rainforest. Nature in Costa Rica can be unpredictable, but it often still provides amazing moments even in changing conditions. Thank you for choosing to explore with us. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back for another adventure in Costa Rica in the future. Pura Vida!
Our guide was great. Even though the weather was kind of gross and rainy, the guide kept us interested. He was incredible at finding the tiniest frogs and lizards. We didn't get the best experience bc of the unseasonably bad weather but it is a safe trail to walk at night, the guide is extremely professional and knowledgable (as was every Jacamar tour guide was on my 4 very different excursions with them) and made the best of it. He told us about the plants ("shampoo" plants, worms markings on leaves) and other interesting things about the terrain and wildlife in Costa Rica, in general, bc there weren't too many animals out. I would say this is more of an adult tour than for kids. My son turned 12 on the day we went. We thought it would be a great birthday gift to show him sloths and reptiles (his favorite)- it didn't work out quite as planned but my husband and I enjoyed it a lot! What really saved the day is that my son found a star fruit on the ground and asked if he could eat it. The guide said save it until the end. When we were done, he left for a second and came back with the fruit cut up in many pieces for us and the other couple on our tour to share. Such a thoughtful gesture that literally left us with a good taste in our mouths :) Our guide has so much pride in his country and his job and it made the experience pleasurable even though we were cold and wet!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and honest review. While rainforest weather can sometimes be unpredictable, we truly appreciate your understanding — and we’re so glad to hear that your guide made the experience engaging and meaningful despite the rainy conditions. Night walks are always a bit of an adventure, and the wildlife activity can vary, but our guides take great pride in turning every walk into a learning experience. It’s wonderful to know he kept everyone interested by sharing insights about plants, insect markings, and Costa Rica’s unique ecosystem. Even when animal sightings are limited, the rainforest still has so many fascinating details to discover. And what a beautiful birthday memory! The star fruit story truly made us smile. That small gesture reflects exactly the kind of passion and care our guides bring to each tour. Creating personal, meaningful moments — especially on a special day — is something we value deeply. We also appreciate your honest note that this experience may feel more suited to adults. The Night Walk tends to be slower paced and educational, which many nature lovers truly enjoy. Thank you again for joining us on four different tours — that means so much to our team. We hope that next time the rainforest gives you clearer skies… but either way, we’ll be ready to welcome you back for another adventure in La Fortuna!
Diego was an amazing tour guide! He guided us safely through the rainforest, stopping to talk about the wildlife we encountered. He found frogs, toads, lizards, and insects. (fortunately no snakes). It took about 2 hours to slowly walk through the forest. He did an excellent job explaining facts about the animals and the role they play in the ecosystem. I would highly recommend this tour.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review and recommendation! We’re thrilled to hear that you had such a great night hike experience with Diego. Guiding guests safely through the rainforest while discovering frogs, toads, lizards, and fascinating insects is always a special experience, and it’s great to know that his explanations about the wildlife and their role in the ecosystem made the walk even more meaningful. Thank you for joining us on this nighttime adventure, and we hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable experience in Costa Rica!
Ronald was a perfect guide, very knowledgeable, experienced, and enthusiastic. We mentioned that we had not seen a sloth on our trip yet and he knew just the place to go. He made out trip special and unforgettable. He also gave amazing tips for night time photography becuase he shared our passions.
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear that your night walk was such a special and unforgettable experience. Ronald is an outstanding guide, and it’s great to know that his knowledge, enthusiasm, and passion especially for photography made such a meaningful difference. Going the extra mile to help you spot a sloth is exactly the kind of personal touch we love to offer. We’re also happy that his nighttime photography tips added even more value to the experience. Thank you for choosing us, and we truly hope to welcome you back for another memorable adventure in Costa Rica!
Very knowledgeable local guide!!! We saw rainforest tree frogs and poison dart frogs and a possum. Lovely grounds and fun time
Nelson was a very knowledgeable guide! Helped us to get great pictures. We felt very safe and were so glad we did this tour!
It was so awesome! Great private tour just the two of us! Had yummy fresh fruit and empanadas the. Hiked the rainforest at night….in the rain! Magical!
I have nothing but positive things to say. We booked this tour while staying at Tabacon Resort in the Arenal area (my husband and I with our two 7-year-old boys). Diego, our guide, and his driver picked us up at the hotel (right on time) and drove us to a private farm property. During the drive, he told us about the species we'd be hoping to see, complete with photos. We arrived and began with a small snack at the farm's outdoor restaurant (fruit and cheese tortillas with sour cream). After that the real fun began; we were provided with flashlights and we followed Diego on foot through the rain forest on a narrow trail. It had just rained (which is good apparently!), so we were lucky and saw 4-5 red-eye tree frogs, glass frogs, millipedes, huge spiders, a blue-jeans frog, toads, masked frogs, stream-side frogs, leaf-cutter ants, lizards, and more! Definitely wear long pants and sleeves for the bugs, but we did and it was fine. It was exactly what we hoped for! Thank you Jacamar and Diego!!
Thank you so much for your fantastic review! We’re so happy to hear that you and your family had such a memorable experience on the Rainforest Night Walking Tour. It’s wonderful to know that Diego’s knowledge and friendly approach made the tour special for you and your two boys. We’re also glad that the timing was perfect and that you were able to see so many incredible creatures, from the red-eye tree frogs to the glass frogs and leaf-cutter ants—it sounds like the rainforest was truly alive that night! We’re thrilled that the tour met your expectations and that you enjoyed the small snack at the farm as well. Your tip about wearing long pants and sleeves is great advice for future guests, and we’ll be sure to share it with others. Thank you for choosing Jacamar Tours and for your kind words about Diego. We hope to welcome you back for more adventures in the future!
Marco was incredible! He was so knowledgeable about all of the wildlife and helped us get great pictures. Would recommend wearing hiking gear if you have it - or at least longer pants and good boots/sneakers. The path is well-groomed but you'll still brush by lots of foliage and insects on the ground.
Snacks were provided at the beginning. We assumed some chips or something but instead got delicious home made empanadas with Costa Rica’s favorite sauce. The tour was about two hours in the jungle. If you love amphibians and reptiles, this is for you. Marco, our guide, knew exactly where to look and found us many different animals. As the name suggests, you’ll get the opportunity to see animals you normally wouldn’t see on other tours. I always wanted to see wild dart frogs and a red eyed tree frog, we were lucky enough to see both early on in the tour. This was one of my favorite experiences on our trip and certainly unforgettable and unique.
