Rabaçal - Levada das 25 Fontes

Beskrivning

We waited for more than an hour at the agreed pick-up point. After a long search we found a phone and address of the organization .we drove there ourselves. Apparently they forgot about us... then made the trip a few days later. That was okay.
Thank you for your comments and we deeply apologise for this issue. We are glad to have solved the problem and hope this will not happen again.
Nice hike with a knowledgeable guide. Make sure you have proper shoes as there are a lot of steps down and it can get a bit flooded in the 800m long tunnel. (Also bring a torchlight or a phone as it’s totally dark in there)
This is a great trip. It is about a 12 kilometre walk and is quite hilly with a lot of steps so you need to be quite fit. The walk takes around 4 hours and it is worth taking a pack lunch. Suzanne our guide was excellent and shared lots of local knowledge. The scenery is amazing. We went in March, it is quite high up so needed to wrapped up warm.
We thoroughly enjoyed our guided walk with Yuliya . She was very knowledgeable about the trees and birds and very enthusiastic . She also walked at a suitable pace for the group and had a good sense of humour . We normally prefer to walk independently but this has encouraged us to try other guided walks.
We went to the Levada das 25 Fontes (not the Risco one). We are in our 60s but quite fit. The walk is long and winding with a lot of uphill/downhill and hundreds if not thousands of steps. Add to that some very narrow parts above cliff edges. It is a tough walk so advice is - take the mini bus which is from the car park (by the barrier where the walk starts) for 3 euros each. Take it each way (we only took on way back). It takes you quite a long way to a cafe/toilet stop which is as far as a vehicle can go (tourist vehicles cannot go there). Cafe has lovely food and drinks - indoor and outdoor seating. 0.50 euro coin needed for toilets - it has a machine to change notes if you do not have coins. However, we did make it to the final waterfall which was very impressive indeed with a lot of water dropping from a great height. Some crazy young men were jumping into the pool at the base of the waterfall - I image it was freezing! So proud to have done this walk - but will not do again when we return.
