I Villa de Leyva besöker du Plaza Mayor, känt för sin storlek och stengolv; museer, kyrkor, kloster och attraktioner som de blå brunnarna, helvetet, arkeologiskt och fossilt museum, vingårdar, heliga eccehomo-klostret (du kan välja 2 attraktioner. Casa Terracota ingår inte, detta tillkommer). På vägen tillbaka till Bogotá passerar vi genom städerna Sutamarchan och Ráquira, den senare är en pittoresk plats känd över hela världen för sin långa tradition av keramiskt arbete. Och slutligen kommer vi fram till startpunkten i Bogotá och den plats du vill ha.

På denna magiska plats smälter arkitektur och design, liksom andra konsthantverk. Från sitt ursprung och koncept har den colombianska arkitekten och keramisten Octavio Mendoza Morales försökt att främja en alternativ och harmonisk livsstil för både individen och samhället, samt den omgivande miljön.
Det är beläget i ek km 1,5 Via Arcabuco i ett hus som utgörs av en juvel av kolonialarkitektur som byggdes 1570 som en kvarn, för närvarande skyddade bitar av paleontologiskt och kulturellt arv, av fossila bitar som dateras från den kritiska perioden 130 miljoner år, har 2425 bitar i samling och 441 utställningsdelar. Det har också en samling av cirka 130 arter från olika typiska ekosystem i landet och en levande samling av infödda arter som används för utbildnings-, forsknings- och bevarandeändamål. Detta museum är anslutet till naturvetenskapliga fakulteten vid National University of Colombia.
På den östra sidan av Plaza Mayor i den vackra Villa ligger kyrkan Our Lady of the Rosary
Med 14 000 kvadratmeter är Villa de Leyva en av de största torgarna i Amerika. I detta kullerstensräcka skiljer sig en vattenbrunn ut och kyrkan Our Lady of the Rosary. The trip was almost 14 hours but was worth it. We went midwek so there were no crowds and it was easy to navigate. Our guide Angel was accomodative as we switched betwen Spanish and English. He exhibited some serious F1 skills to get us back to Bogota at a reasonable hour. Only caution is to avoid the Choclate thing…a total toursit trap.

The trip to Villa de Leyva was amazing. I was especially delighted by the Eccehomo Monastery which is literally built with ancient sea fossils. So mysterious and thought provoking. My guide and driver were excellent. Luisa, the driver, had to drive for hours on mountain roads in the rain. She was careful, safe, efficient, friendly and had a great sense of humor. Milens, the guide, was enthusiastic and very friendly. She did a good job answering my unusual questions especially about the monastery which is literally built with ancient ammonite fossils. GoBogota is lucky to have these two young women as employees. I definitely recommend the trip especially with the two young ladies. And lunch was great too.

The visit lasted a total of 14 hours, with 2 people, Driver and Guide, totally at my disposal. During the tour, in addition to Villa de Leyva which is beautiful, we visited a number of other attractions in the area that are worth knowing and visiting. A day where it was possible to take many photos and really get into the local Colombian culture. Highly recommended!

Angel, our tour guide was so great! He took us to the small villages around Villa De Leyva, made a stop to the chocolate museum and took us to a bunch of different historical spots and was able to take plenty of pictures. He was so knowledgeable of the land and made us feel at home
