Guatape, denna östra Antioquia-kommunen, som ligger en och en halv timme från Medellin, öppnar en färgvärld bland sina gator, prydda med baseboards som berättar historier om staden och dess folk. De kallar också det inre havet Antioquia, Acapulco of Colombia, det inre Cartagena, Paraíso Paisa, Remanso de Paz, hjärtat av Antioquia öst. Det namngavs till ära av Cacique Guatapé, en invånare på detta territorium i pre-Hispanic perioden. Ett annat namn han har haft är Ceja de Guatapé. Rock of Guatapé eller Piedra del Peñol, är en monolith 220 meter hög i Guatapé (Antioquia, Colombia). El Peñons sten, bestående av kvarts, felspar och glimmer, klättrade för första gången den 16 juli 1954 av en invånare i området Luis Eduardo Villegas López. i bolaget med Ramon Diaz och Pedro Nel Ramírez tillhörde stenen fortfarande Villegas familjen. Nu kan du nå sitt toppmöte genom att klättra 740 steg byggda i monoliten.

This tour was great! Our tour guide Andres (Andrew) was very knowledgeable and took care of us. We really enjoyed the animal farm after breakfast.
We had an absolutely wonderful private tour of Guatapé with Mateo! He was incredibly kind, professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely fun to spend the day with. He did a great job explaining the history and culture of the area, and we learned so much while still having a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Mateo spoke both English and Spanish very well, which made everything easy and comfortable. He was also funny, personable, and made us feel welcome from the moment he picked us up. He drove us safely throughout the day, took us to some great local spots to eat, and encouraged us to try different Colombian foods and experiences. He was flexible with what we wanted to see and made sure we had plenty of time to enjoy each stop without ever feeling rushed. Most importantly, he got us back exactly when we needed to be there. Mateo went above and beyond to make our day special. He wasn’t just a tour guide—he felt like a friend showing us his country. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing experience! Our private tour to Guatapé with Andres was fantastic. He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and went above and beyond to make the day special. He truly tailored the experience to us—from his storytelling and local insights to his road-trip playlist and everything in between. It felt much more personal than a typical tour. Andres also speaks excellent English, which I highly recommend for English-speaking travelers. We’ve had experiences where “English-speaking guide” didn’t quite live up to expectations, but Andres was fantastic and communication was effortless. This was a perfectly organized day trip from Medellin to Guatapé. We had plenty of time to see all the sites without feeling rushed. The real star though was our guide, Hector. He is hands down one of the greatest guides we’ve ever had. He was incredibly thoughtful and went out of his way to make sure our day was extra special. This tour was definitely worth it if you’re interested in spending a day in Guatape as it includes so much. Plan for the weather since except for the drive, the entire day is spent outdoors. We climbed the Peñol rock, which was a bit challenging but worth it for the views from the top and everyone can go at their own pace. It costs extra but only about 30,000 pesos. From there, we visited the colorful town for shopping and snacks, and afterwards we had lunch and enjoyed the boat ride. We felt like we experienced just enough for this trip but would definitely come back again. Nelson was our guide and he was fantastic.
