Jaisalmer-fortet är det näst äldsta fortet i Rajasthan, byggt 1156 e.Kr. av Rajput Rawal (härskare) Jaisal från vilket det härstammar sitt namn, och stod vid korsningen av viktiga handelsvägar (inklusive den antika sidenvägen). Fortet har palats, jain-tempel, stadsutsikt. är ett levande fort som har 4000 invånare. massor av hus, hotell, restauranger.
Nathmal ki Haveli, Jaisalmer är en sent 1800-talsarkitektur som en gång tidigare var premiärministerens hus. Det är känt för sin extraordinära arkitektur och anses vara den bästa i Jaisalmer. Tydligen finns det en intressant historia bakom det. Storhetens struktur är hårt arbete från två bröder, Hathi och Lullu, som var juvelerare och inte arkitekt. De började båda med olika fasetter av byggnaden samtidigt. Som ett resultat är byggnadens vänstra och högra sida samma men inte identisk. Skrifterna gjorda på Havelien sågs aldrig av arkitektbröderna i verkliga livet och graverades av beskrivningar från de människor som hade sett det.
Handlarna i Jaisalmer byggde några av de mest utsmyckade bostäderna någonsin. Patwon Ki Haveli är gjord av Jaisalmer sandsten, dessa är prydda med jaalis och utarbetade fasader. De mest skickliga stenhuggarna görs på utsidan, eftersom de visade rikedom mer än någonting annat. Den största och mest utsmyckade av havelierna är Patwon-ki-Haveli, en uppsättning av fem hus intill varandra, byggd av fem Jain-bröder under första hälften av 1800-talet. Dessa var de fem sönerna till Guman Chand, en handlare inom textilier och ädelmetaller.

Harish is a very knowledgeable about Jaisalmer having been born and raised in Jaisalmer. He took us to all the city highlights and bazaars. He is very informative about the history behind all the heritage and historical sights. He is polite and courteous.Would recommend Harish. We had an amazing day.

Harishji took us along for a 5 hour tour of the Jaisalmer Fort & surrounding attractions such as Nathmal & Patwon ki Haveli. With his amazing story telling ability & sense of humour, we had an enriching download of Jaisalmer’s history, got an amazing tour of the fort including a panaromic view from a cafe, details of the beautiful jain temple in fort premises, a taste of the famed Kachori & Ghotwa and also the story of Satyajit Ray shooting his famous “Sonar Kella” ! Harish is a fantastic guide. He took us through an excellent walk inside the Jaisalmer Fort pointing out noteworthy sites and providing the right amount of information to make the walk interesting. Harish also knows the best places inside the fort where you can take a short break, use a restroom or sip on a drink while you refresh yourself. He took us to the intricately carved Jain temples, the wonderful havelis as well as Bada Bagh to see the cenotaphs amazingly lit up in the rays of the setting sun. Harish is fluent in English, articulate and knowledgeable and we had a wonderful day exploring Jaisalmer with him. An added benefit with Harish, is that he is an excellent photographer and he took some great snaps capturing the memories from this trip which we would always cherish.
