Det finns en medeltida fästning Amberd på södra sluttningarna av berget Aragats, bort från de hektiska städerna. Den står på den klippiga klippan på en höjd av 2100 meter skyddad från två sidor med djupa raviner vid korsningen av floderna Amberd och Arkashen. Höjden är 3402 m; ytan är 0,12 kvm; djupet är 9 m. Det finns en meteorologisk station, utrustad på den östra kusten av sjön.

Klosterkomplexet Saghmosavank ligger på högra stranden av Kasakhfloden, i byn Saghmosavan. Enligt traditionen grundades Saghmosavank av Grigor Lusavorich (Grigory the Illuminator).
Hovhanavank Monastery-komplexet ligger i byn Hovhanavan, vid kanten av Kasakhflodens ravin. Kanske var den tillägnad Jesus-baptisten St. Hovhannes Mkrtich.

Trots utmärkt skydd av Amberd, invaderades den av seljuker som kom från Centralasien i slutet av 1000-talet. Amberds arkitektur är enkel. Fästningens väggar är gjorda av massiva basaltplattor som en gång tjänade till att skydda från granater och belägringsvapen. På några ställen. Byggnadsgrunder och få murar hade bevarats inne i fästningen.
Monumentet för det armeniska alfabetet beläget på den västra sluttningen av berget Aragats byggdes 2005 och tillägnat det armeniska alfabetets skapelse 1600-årsjubileum.

Getting a tour when you have limited time is the best way to know the city you are visiting. I had a great time being solo traveller since I own my time. Gagik let me spend all the time I need playing in the snow and even became my photographer. The tour itself was short since there only 3 destination in this package but the amount of time I spent on those places made it worth while.
