Gå in i Taroko Gorge genom valvet först. Denna stora båge, inspirerad av traditionell Kinesisk palatsarkitektur, ligger i södra änden av Jinwen Bridge där den möter Central Cross-Island Highway. Dess sex tecken långa inskription, skriven av den berömda moderna kalligrafen Mr. Wang Chuang-Wei, har blivit motorvägens emblem sedan den öppnades. Idag fungerar det också som ingången till Taroko Gorge, som fungerar som både ett landmärke och en populär fotomöjlighet.

På Taroko National Park Visitor Center kan du lära dig om de geologiska krafter som formade Taroko. Taiwans landskap har lyfts upp av plattektonisk kompression, vilket gör jordbävningar vanliga. Utställningarna visar också före- och efterverkningarna av seismiska händelser – särskilt den stora jordbävningen i Hualien 2024, som dramatiskt förändrade parkens spår och landformer.
Eternal Spring Shrine är byggd för att fira minnet av 226 personal (militärveteraner) som dog under byggandet av Central Cross-Island Highway.
Tianxiang ligger längs den östra delen av Central Cross-Island Highway, cirka 19 km från Taroko Gorge. Här flyter floderna Dasha och Tacijili samman och bildar floden Liwu, vars långa historia av sedimentering och erosion har format slående flodbankar med flera terrasser. Den här rymliga dalen var en gång fylld av restauranger, butiker och hotell, men efter jordbävningen 2024 minskade antalet besökare och många företag flyttade därifrån och lämnade efter sig en lugn, nästan orörd atmosfär. Håll utkik efter formosanmakaker som strövar omkring i området; deras närvaro ger en charmig vild touch till denna lugna bergsreträtt.
Längs Central Cross-Island Highway, efter att ha passerat Jiuqudong (Tunnel of Nine Turns), kommer du till Cimu Bridge (Motherly Devotion Bridge). Denna H-formade hängbro har marmorstenslejon i varje ände och marmorlotusstenar på två sidor. Under bron liknar en sten en groda, formad av ett svart schistskikt ovanpå och vit marmor längst ner. En paviljong byggd på denna grodformade klippa fungerar som en krona, byggd av framlidne presidenten Chiang Jing-guo till minne av sin mor under motorvägens byggande. Cimu-paviljongen, som ligger på östra sidan av bron och byggdes av den avlidne presidenten Chiang Kai-shek, hedrar också minnet av hans mor, fru Wang.

Qixingtan Beach är en pittoresk stenstrand som ligger på Hualiens Stillahavskust, strax norr om staden. Besökare kan njuta av att cykla längs kustleden, koppla av i paviljonger eller promenera förbi pulserande hus och konstinstallationer. På natten är stranden lugn – perfekt för stjärnskådning och vågskådning. Obs! Bad är inte tillåtet på grund av starka strömmar. Qixingtan är ett måste för dig som vill njuta av naturen och lugnet under en resa till Hualien. Innan du avslutar ditt besök, lyssna på vågorna som slår på klipporna och ta in den hisnande utsikten över Stilla havet.

It’s long day due to travel times. However worth the drag. Be prepared to climb and walk in the heat. Our guide was very accommodating and was happy to stop when we wanted.
Bubble was an amazing tour guide who gave us a great experience! Everything was timed out perfectly and we were introduced to all of the sights as Bubble discussed the history of Taroko. Even though most of the hikes are closed still, we had a great time and enjoyed no crowds and no admission fee. Highly recommend this tour, especially for foreign tourists and anyone with movement difficulties. Thank you Bubble, we had a great day!
Wonderful tour! Jack was an excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable tour guide. The ride was very comfortable. Jack took us to so many beautiful sights and provided lots of info about the gorge. Would highly recommend this tour!
This was a private tour, actually I was the only one in the tour. Caleb was my tour guide and he was awesome. Very knowledgeable about sites, history and everything in-between. Taroko gorge is amazing and we visited as much as was possible given the construction repairs after the earthquake (about 3 years ago). I highly recommend it!

Jack was a fantastic tour guide. Always attentive, informative, and knowledgeable. He knows all the spots to go and all the right ways to get there. Although the hiking trails in the park are closed post-earthquake, it is still open for driving tours and small stops along the way. Absolutely gorgeous and definitely worth it.

Very long day, mostly driving. 3 hours each way, + driving locally. Gorges are nice but not worth the distance. People should stay at least a couple days on site, and perhaps do local activities (beach, hiking)
Hi Joel, Thank you for sharing your honest feedback. You're completely right about the drive—it does take about 2.5 to 3 hours each way from Taipei, and holiday traffic can make it even longer. We always try to include a couple of rest stops for snacks and bathroom breaks to make the long journey more comfortable. We also appreciate your note about staying overnight. Since the 2024 earthquake, several gorge trails remain closed for safety. To adapt, our current day tour combines open paths with coastal activities at Qixingtan Beach. As the park continues its restoration, we look forward to adding more trails back into the itinerary. Thank you again for your valuable insights. My partner and I had a great time on this tour. Even though all the trails were closed due to the big earthquake in 2024, our tour guide, Steven, was still able to show us quite a few good spots to explore and take photos. Steven was very friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and didn’t rush us and let us take our time to enjoy the beauty of Tarako Gorge National Park. Highly recommended.
