Perge återvänder till historien som en pamfylisk grekisk stad och kom med Pamfylien under successivt styre av perser, atenare och perser igen. Alexander den store, efter att ha lämnat Phaselis, ockuperade Perge med en del av sin armé. Vägen mellan dessa två städer beskrivs som lång och svår. Alexanders styre följdes av seleukidernas Diadochi-rike, sedan romarna. Perge blev känd för dyrkan av Artemis, vars tempel stod på en kulle utanför staden, och till vars ära firades årliga högtider. Perges mynt representerar både gudinnan och hennes tempel.
Vissa forskare associerar stadens namn med "Azatiwadaya". Den kända staden med det namnet grundades av Azatiwada från Quwê på hans östra gräns, vid Karatepe.[3] Enligt senare tradition grundades Aspendos ganska tidigare av greker som kan ha kommit från Argos. Det breda utbudet av dess mynt i den antika världen indikerar att Aspendos på 500-talet f.Kr. hade blivit den viktigaste staden i Pamfylien. Vid den tiden, enligt Thukydides, var Eurymedonfloden farbar ända till Aspendos,[4] och staden fick stor rikedom från handel med salt, olja och ull. Aspendos spelade ingen viktig roll i antiken som politisk kraft. Dess politiska historia under kolonisationsperioden motsvarade strömmarna i Pamfyliska regionen. Inom denna trend, efter kolonialtiden, förblev den en tid under lykisk hegemoni. År 546 f.Kr. kom det under persisk herravälde. Att staden fortsatte att prägla mynt i sitt eget namn tyder dock på det

Ömer was a very friendly, knowledgeable guide who went out of his way to give us a great experience. Our driver was excellent in navigating his way around the busy roads. All the places we visited were really interesting. Topped off with a delicious Turkish ice cream at the waterfall. Highly recommend!
