Det nationella etruskiska museet i Villa Giulia anses vara det mest representativa italienska museet för den etruskiska civilisationen och det ligger inom Villa Giulia, förortsresidensen till påven Jules III (1550-55), designad av Vignola och realiserad med deltagande av Ammannati och Vasari. 1889 var villan avsedd att vara museet för de romerska antikviteterna i Latium. Två vingar tillkom mellan 1912 och 1923. Specifika avsnitt ägnas också åt etruskisk epigrafi, museets historia och det arkitektoniska komplexet i Valle Giulia. Av särskilt intresse är utställningarna av: - Apollo från Veio (sjätte århundradet f.Kr.) - Sarcophagus of the Makes from Cerveteri (sjätte århundradet f.Kr.) - den höga lättnaden och de gyllene tunna lakan från Pyrgi (femte århundradet f.Kr.) - Apollo dello Scasato från Falerii (fjärde århundradet f.Kr.) - Centauren från Vulci (sjätte århundradet f.Kr.) - den så kallade Cista Ficoroni från Palestrina (fjärde århundradet f.Kr.).

This is a wonderful museum that deserves to be seen by more visitors. It’s a bit off the beaten path but is a lovely hidden gem with a beautiful garden. Our guide, Vincenzo, made the history of the Etruscans come alive for us. Lovely exhibits and no crowds in May when we visited.
We loved our private tour with Vincenzo. He was prompt and courteous. A spirited guide who obviously enjoys his work, Vincenzo showed us the top highlights of this very interesting, major collection of Etruscan artifacts housed in the beautiful Villa Giulia. Next time we're in Rome we will be sure to engage his services again.

The fascinating and evolved world of the Etruscans masterfully presented by the always impeccable Vincenzo who was not limited to the ancient people but illustrated the history of the wonderful container, the splendid Villa Giulia.
