Colosseum och Forum Romanum. Forumet var Roms politiska, administrativa och religiösa centrum i den antika världen. Den fick sitt namn efter Italiens första kung som en symbol för landets enhet, och den rymmer okända soldaters grav och en evig låga utanför som brinner för dem som förlorades under första världskriget.

Under antiken byggde romarna många tempel på toppen av denna kulle för att förstärka att Rom var "caput mundi", världens överhuvud. Ursprungligen byggt som ett tempel för alla gudar, med ordet pantheon som betyder "ära alla gudar" på grekiska, detta stora monument är det bäst bevarade från antikens Rom. Både arkitekter och forskare är fortfarande förbryllade över hur byggnaden inte visar några skador från tid eller gravitation, och den står intakt med all sin prakt och glans. Även om det har sett flera renoveringar, är huvudstrukturen densamma, inklusive dess legendariska kupol med dess oculus (eller Pantheons öga) högst upp. Än i dag är det den största kupolen i världen utan stöd, och varje år på pingst släpps rosenblad genom oculus för att symbolisera eldens tungor som sänker sig över Kristi folk.
Trevifontänen är möjligen en av de mest kända fontänerna i världen. Den har varit med i många filmer, och miljontals människor kommer varje år för att kasta in ett mynt och önska sig. Förutom att vara påvens hem, är Vatikanstaten också hem för Vatikanmuseerna, världens största samling av konst med 9 miles av konst som skulle kunna svepa runt Vatikanens murar 4 ½ gånger! Den innehåller 54 museer, 1400 rum, kapell och gallerier. Förutom det berömda Sixtinska kapellet visar museerna också det enda verk av Leonardo Da Vinci i Rom, S:t Hieronymus, Raphael-rummen och Pinoteca, som innehåller samlingar av påvarna, alla med anor från medeltiden och är placerade i kronologisk ordning.
Michaelangelos Sixtinska kapell är möjligen det mest kända mästerverket i modern tid, med över 5 miljoner besökare per år. Det var ett projekt som konstnären tog sig an motvilligt eftersom hans fokus var skulpturer, och han skulle klaga på den fysiska belastning det tog på hans kropp. Det sägs att utformningen av kapellet från påven Sixtus IV är modellerad efter Salomos tempel från Gamla testamentet, som bara är större än en professionell basketplan! Det finns många fler fresker att beundra här från andra artister, inklusive: Domenico Ghirlandaio, Pietro Perugino, Cosimo Roselli och Sandro Botticelli.
Slutligen kommer du att få se den största basilikan i världen, med markeringar inuti kyrkan för att säkerställa att varannan basilika passar in. Den nyfikna besökaren bjuds på Michelangelos Pieta längst fram, 150 mosaiker och Berninis baldacchino, som är 96 fot hög och 100 000 pund brons! Överraskande nog finns det bara en verklig målning i basilikan, och den kan ses hänga ovanför Pietan. Många påvar är begravda i kyrkan eller är utställda, men de flesta av påvarna är begravda under basilikan inklusive St. Peter, den första påven.

Excellent tour with a great mix of history, both within the church and ancient Rome.
We only had one full day to experience Rome and this tour was the perfect option! The tour company coordinated with us in advance on our personalized itinerary and we easily met up with Rahul outside of the Colosseum on the day of the tour. Rahul was super knowledgeable, inquired about our interests, and tailored his commentary on the spot at each location just for us! He hit all of our top destinations, spent the perfect amount of time at each, and then helped us navigate to dinner/hotel afterwards. The next day, he followed up with tailored recommendations for our next tour stop in Florence!

The tour was one of the highlights of my trip. The tour guide was knowledgeable, entertaining, and very patient in answering everyone’s questions. Actually, not 5/5 but I would give this tour a 4.5/5. We did this 7-8 hour private tour with Rahul to see the Vatican and Old Rome. He's been doing this for many years and has perfected this tour in his own way over time. He was also engaged with the kids to understand what everyone desired to get out of this tour, irrespective of age. We started off doing the Vatican City, then Old Rome. I wish it were done the other way due to the afternoon heat since old Rome is mostly outdoors, and it was hot. Given it was a private tour, he first got a sense of where we wanted to spend more time and where we wanted to spend less and planned the tour accordingly. It was a walking tour through all the sites. Make sure you wear comfortable sneakers. He carries illustrative books to give you a sense of what Rome looked like back in the day. We stopped at a self-service cafeteria for a hurried lunch, which could have been done better, in my opinion, and the money paid should have been included. All admissions to the sites were included. Also, transport between Vatican sites and Old Rome should have been included

We spent two full days touring Rome prior to our Mediterranean cruise. We were looking for an English speaking tour guide that could show us the must-see sights that included skip the line VIP attraction tickets, could accommodate 6 people, 1 of which was in a mobility scooter and was a flexible with itinerary. Our family of 7 spent a remarkable day with Rahul viewing the major Rome attractions. As others have noted Rahul's knowledge and insight is first class. I can't imagine anyone better to spend a day with to gain an appreciation and overview of Rome highlights. Our weather was HOT (100 degrees) but Rahul kept us on track and in shade as much as possible. The passion and knowledge he shared with us was unparalleled and highly recommend this tour!
The private tour of Rome and Vatican with Rahul was the best part of our visit. We met with Rahul near the Arch of Constantine and from there it was a wonderful, mesmerizing tour of Rome (Coliseum, Palatine Hill, Roman Forum, Campidoglio, Vittoriano, Pantheon, Piazza Navono) and Vatican city museums and St. Peters Basilica. We had already covered the Spanish Steps and Trve Fountain the previous day but I'm sure Rahul would have covered them as well if we had time. Rahul was patient, enthusiastic, and willing to go the extra mile to satisfy his customers (he also doubled as a good photographer for our family pictures). All in a day from 7:30 AM until almost 5 PM with an informational tour full of nuggets of historical information about every single venue. Rahul is a wonderful tour guide and I highly recommend his services.
