Det nya palatset (Neues Palais) i Potsdam är det största och mest överdådiga palatset i Sanssouci Park. Byggt av Fredrik den store efter sjuårskriget var det avsett som ett storslaget uttalande om preussisk styrka och rikedom. Med sin överdådiga barockarkitektur, utsmyckade interiörer och över 200 rum fungerade slottet som en plats för kungliga ceremonier, statsbesök och påkostade fester.
Paradiesgarten (Paradisträdgården) i Potsdam är en vackert anlagd del av Sanssouci Park, utformad som en lugn tillflyktsort i de kungliga trädgårdarna. Med eleganta gångar, prydnadsplanteringar och noggrant planerade vyer återspeglar det den raffinerade trädgårdsestetik som föredras av det preussiska hovet och kompletterar de omgivande palatsen och den historiska arkitekturen.

We got a super cool personalized tour, and our guide Glen was fantastic! We also got to learn how to navigate the German transit system. Glen learned what we were interested in, as our entire Europe trip had been WWII-focused, and really gave us details and insight around Potsdam, and the events and people that led up to both World Wars. Potsdam had a significant part to play, which I definitely did not know. There is also some beautiful and unique architecture around Potsdam, which I loved taking pictures of. Mikhail was AMAZING! It was unexpectedly cold and we got rained on as well, but he still made it an extremely fun experience. I went with a group of my girlfriends all of us are college age, and there were some older couples there too, and everyone was able to enjoy themselves equally. He knows his way around and if anything ever seems closed, he will find his way in for you.

Nikolai was a fantastic guide. We didn’t know what to expect nor the history of Potsdam and he taught us so much! We navigated through bus and train system with his assistance and found a cute cafe for a snack mid day. He was patient with our need to go slow and still managed to hit most (I think?) of his planned itinerary. It was more walking than we expected but nothing too much. Would love to go back to the palace / bummed we didn’t have time to see more!
