Korea är världens enda delade nation, uppdelad i Syd- och Nordkorea av DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) till följd av Koreakriget (1950~1953), som orsakade miljontals offer, inklusive 10 miljoner separerade familjemedlemmar. Imjingak Nuri Peace Park utvecklades omedelbart efter att Sydkoreas gemensamma uttalande deklarerades 1972. Detta är ett komplext kulturellt utrymme där Global Peace Festival hölls 2005. Den är sammansatt av olika kulturella anläggningar, såsom en storskalig utomhusteater, musikens kulle, och vindens kulle, där omkring 3 000 pinwheel snurrar. Det här är platsen att ta pendelbussen framför biljettkontoret.
Den 3:e tunneln upptäcktes vid en punkt bara 52 km (32 miles) från Seoul, i det administrativa distriktet Paju, 1978. Tunneln är underjordisk, med 73 m (240 fot) djup, 1 635 m (1 mile) , 2 m i bredd och 2 m (6,6 fot) i höjd. Dessutom är den lika stor i skala som en armé på trettiotusen fullt beväpnade nordkoreanska soldater att passera inom en timme. Det är den största bland de tunnlar som hittills har upptäckts. Vi kan säkert gissa hur stark den nordkoreanska komplotten att invadera Sydkorea var vid den tiden.
Denna plats är belägen på Dora Mountain i DMZ, fungerar som det nordligaste observatoriet i söder och ger en nära bild av Nordkorea. Rakt framåt kan du observera en närliggande nordkoreansk vaktpost, en propagandaby och nordkoreansk jordbruksmark. Dessutom kan du skymta stadsområdet Gaeseong och Gaeseong Industrial Complex, ett GPS-störningstorn som syftar till att störa elektroniska signaler och förhindra nordkoreanska medborgare från att komma åt sydkoreanska sändningar. På avstånd syns också Joint Security Area (JSA). En annan spännande aspekt är att på en klar dag med lycka till kan du observera nordkoreaner som arbetar på fälten, går längs vägarna eller cyklar genom teleskopet på observatoriets tak. Du kan också få syn på passerande fordon, som bilar och traktorer, då och då.
Tongilchon, även känd som Unification Village, ligger inom gränserna för den civila kontrolllinjen. Det grundades 1973 och bestod från början av 40 hushåll av veteraner och 40 infödda hushåll. Inspirerad av kibbutzmodellen i Israel var byn strategiskt utformad. Medan invånarna utför sitt vanliga arbete på vanliga dagar, utbildas de i militära procedurer för att reagera på nödsituationer. Regionen är känd för sina lokala specialiteter: Jangdan-sojabönor, ginseng och ris. Dessa produkter visas på jordbruksmarknadsföringscentret som ligger vid ingången till byn och är tillgängliga för försäljning för besökare.
Här kan du besöka Mangbaedan, dit utspridda familjemedlemmar som är födda i Nordkorea eller som har sina hemstäder där kommer varje Chuseok (koreansk Thanksgiving) eller Lunar New Year's Day. Det finns också "Frihetsbron", där sydkoreanska och FN-krigsfångar repatrierades i slutet av Koreakriget. Du kommer också att se ett ånglok som skadades allvarligt av fiendens attack under Koreakriget, samt broar och andra historiska lämningar från den eran. Och sedan äter du lunch på en restaurang i närheten.
Gamaksan Mountain (675m) är ett av de fem klippiga bergen i Gyeonggi-provinsen. En hängbro byggdes över en djup dal, som spänner över 150 m (0,1 mil) i längd och står 45 m (144 fot) hög, allt utan behov av bropelare. Denna design gör att bron smälter harmoniskt med den omgivande naturen. Den här bron bär också tilläggsnamnet "Gloucester Heroes Bridge", och hyllar de modiga ansträngningarna från soldaterna från Gloucestershire Battalion Regiment under Koreakriget. Alternativt kan du också ha möjlighet att besöka krigsminnesmärket, där du kan lära dig mer om Koreakriget i mycket mer detalj, istället för att gå till Gamaksan hängbron, eller besöka andra platser du önskar.
Detta är en valfri tur till Mt. Gamaksan Suspension Bridge. Koreas krigsmonument ställer ut och bevarar material relaterat till Koreakriget och fungerar som en nationell mötesplats för moralisk utbildning. Museet har cirka 33 000 artefakter, varav cirka 10 000 visas på inomhus- och utomhusutställningar. Det finns sex separata inomhushallar, inklusive Expeditionsstyrkornas rum, Patriotic Memorial Room, War History Room, 6·25 Korean War Room, Development Hall och Large Machinery Room. Utställningen visar upp stora vapen.
