Från mitten av november till nyårsafton omvandlas Wiens vackraste torg till magiska julmarknader. De generöst upplysta monumentala byggnaderna längs ringen gör en fantastisk bakgrund och doften av julbageriprodukter och varma stans skapar en atmosfär före julen. Snack på krämfyllda bakverk, kandad frukt, rostade kastanjer och Weihnachtspunsch (en kryddad "julpunch" av vin, brandy eller snaps sötad med varma fruktjuicer). Beläget på nästan alla hörn av staden finns det en mängd markhytter att bläddra med den största markören framför det imponerande stadshuset. Kom i semestern på denna 2,5-timmars vandringstur i Wiens julmarknader i några av stadens mest pittoreska torg.

Art Mart framför spektakulärt upplysta St. Charles kyrka är full av tillverkade gåvor, traditionella matar och en lekplats för barn.
St Stephens katedral är omgiven av en marknad med typiska wienska saker som snöklot. Julens dofter finns runt.
Kohlmarkt och Graben är en del av Wiens "Golden Quarter". Städerna mest kända kaffe-roster "Julius Meinl" och den mest kända konditoren "Demel" står ut mot alla lyxbutiker.
St. Michael's Gate är den mest imponerande tillgången till Hofburg Palace, maktcentrum i mer än sjuhundra år.
Här står den ikoniska "Speckstandl" ut - korv, skinka, bacon och hjärtliga bett och alla skatter i ett rökhus.
"Old Vienna Christmas Market" på Freyung är för många de mest atmosfäriska i staden. Omgivet av några av de mest imponerande familjen palais, har torget fortfarande charmen på en gammal torg.

Brigitte was such a delight when touring us around the Christmas markets in Vienna. She was very knowledgeable and we appreciated her little tidbits of history throughout the night. She was very engaging and personable. Not many tour guides care to ask for the individual names of their clients, but Brigitte made sure that was the first thing she found out when she met us! She was very patient while we were walking and we aren’t used to walking in Vienna’s winter weather, so it was nice to feel like we weren’t being rushed around. Brigitte is aware that some of Vienna’s sights and happenings are being catered to the increased tourism in the city, so she made sure to show us and bring us to places that exhibited the authenticity of Viennese way of life. Before leaving us for the night, Brigitte made sure to give us specific directions for the quickest route back to our AirBnB where she met us. Would definitely recommend for future tours!!

Travelers should know that this tour is much better and deeper than a simple Christmas Market tour. Walter is a scholarly tour guide who took us to numerous Christmas Markets, big and small; public and remote; old and newer. He shared concepts about Paris architecture, politics, culture, international influences, food, city government and infrastructure. We loved every minute and will book again next year.
