Följ med på en konfronterande men ändå nödvändig rundtur i Phnom Penh till The Killing Fields of Choeung Ek och Tuol Slengs folkmordsmuseum. Denna turné hjälper dig att reflektera över de förödande effekterna av Röda Khmerernas regim på det moderna Kambodja. Vi står ansikte mot ansikte med Röda Khmerernas fruktansvärda brott. Tuol Sleng var en före detta gymnasieskola som Röda Khmererna förvandlade till ett centrum för förhör, tortyr och död. 17 000 människor passerade genom portarna till detta fängelse och bara sju levde för att berätta historien. Vi reser sedan ut ur staden till Killing Fields of ChoengEk. Fångar från Tuol Sleng följde samma väg till sitt öde. ChoengEk, en gammal kinesisk kyrkogård, förvandlades till ett förintelseläger för politiska fångar. Resterna av 8985 människor grävdes upp från massgravar och förvaras i en minnesstupa här. Trots det förflutnas fasor är det en fridfull plats att gå till och en lugn plats att reflektera över de tragiska händelserna som uppslukade Kambodja och dess folk.

Vår professionella reseguide och chaufför kommer att hämta dig i lobbyn på ditt hotell och åka till Tuol Sleng S21 där det var det viktigaste politiska fängelset och var dit misstänkta fiender till Angkar skickades. När Pol Pot och de högsta befälhavarnas paranoia ökade, ökade antalet kambodjaner som fängslades här. Väl inne torterades fångarna antingen till döds eller skickades till närliggande Choeung Ek för omskolning – vilket betyder avrättning. Uppskattningsvis 12 273 greps vid S-21, med endast sju kända överlevande.
Sedan reser vi ut ur staden till Killing Fields of Choeng Ek. Mellan 1975 och 1978 fördes cirka 20 000 personer som hölls på S-21 till Killing Fields of Choeung Ek. Liksom nazisterna var de röda khmerernas ledare noggranna med att föra register över sitt barbari. Varje fånge som passerade genom S-21 fotograferades, ibland före och efter tortyr. Museet visar rum efter rum med skakande svartvita fotografier; praktiskt taget alla män, kvinnor och barn på bilden dödades senare. Du kan se vilket år en bild togs av siffertavlan som visas på fångens bröst. Flera utlänningar från Australien, Nya Zeeland och USA hölls också på S-21 innan de mördades. Our guide was Ms. Sreyneang. She spoke impeccable English and was knowledgeable about many topics in addition to her deep knowledge of the 1975-1979 genocide. Really enjoyed the tour with her. Went in the afternoon so while traffic back to the city from the Killing Fields was bad, we had fewer crowds at the sites.

Toul Sleng and Killing Field are emotional places created during Khmer Rough. Thank Chansip for telling us a lot about history of Cambodia. We had gone to visit Siem Reap and got much the glory of Angkorian Period but we did not expect Cambodia changed history from the glory to the dark age led by Khmer Rough. We hope this brutality and massacre will not happen to this country again.
