Khor Virap är den mest kända pilgrimsplatsen i Armenien, eftersom det är direkt kopplat till antagandet av kristendomen. Som statsreligion antogs kristendomen i Armenien år 301 på grund av ansträngningar av Saint Gregory Upplysaren, som, innan han konverterade kung Trdat 3: e till kristendomen, fängslades i fängelsehålan, över vilken en kyrka i Khor Virap kloster byggdes på 1600-talet. Från klostret kan man beundra den fantastiska utsikten över det bibliska berget Ararat.
Utspridda bland bergen för Azatreservoaren samman vatten och himmel och skapar en av Armeniens mest imponerande och fridfulla vyer.
Garnitemplet, som tornar upp sig över en triangulär udde, är det unika bevarade exemplet på hednisk kultur i Armenien. Det är en blandning av grekisk-romerska och armeniska stilar. Kung Trdat Den första beordrade att templet skulle byggas under det första århundradet e.Kr. och tillägnades solens Gud. Efter att ha antagit kristendomen år 301 förlorade det hedniska templet sin betydelse och fästningen Garni blev kungarnas sommarresidens. Numera ruinerna av det kungliga slottet och badrummet med en fantastisk mosaik arbete kan hittas nära templet.
Geghardklostret är det oöverträffade mästerverket i den armeniska arkitekturen från 1200-talet. Några av komplexets kyrkor är mästerligt huggna i en enorm klippa. Från början kallades komplexet Ayrivank (grottkloster), senare döptes det om till Geghard (lans) eftersom lansen, som användes av den romerska soldaten för att sticka Jesus Kristus sida, hade hållits i detta kloster i många århundraden. På grund av sin konstruktion tjänar Geghardavank den bästa platsen för att sjunga andliga sånger. Komplexet är rikt på subtila skulpturala utsmyckningar och många slående khachkars (korsstenar). Platsen finns med på UNESCO:s världsarvslista.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience on this tour! Everything was perfectly organized, and they were very punctual and fully committed to the schedule. She always made sure that everyone was comfortable, answered all our questions, and explained everything in a very interesting and clear way. Her warm personality and positive energy made the whole experience even more enjoyable. She truly went above and beyond to make our day special. Our driver, Khachik, was also excellent, professional, punctual, and drove very safely. We felt comfortable and relaxed during the entire journey. We went on an individual tour to the monasteries of Khor Virap, Noravank, Gegard and the Temple of Garni. Besides the main points of the tour, driver Arakel showed us many interesting places: the village with storks, the Azatic reservoir, beautiful views of mountain passes and Ararat. The company arranged for us to have lunch at the Noravanck monastery with a great view of the rocks. Overall, the tour went very well, if we book tours, it will only be in this campaign

I booked the private tour from Hyur’s official website - which is much cheaper than the one advertised on Tripadvisor (I suppose TA takes commission). The customer service contacted me three days prior to confirm the details and answered all kinds of my questions. The driver Arman was very professional and polite and went above and beyond to take me to bus station twice to purchase an intercity mini bus ticket. He couldn’t speak much English but whenever it’s something important he called his office to translate to me to make sure there is no misunderstanding. At each place, I got to spend as much time as I wanted and enjoyed the great views and architectures of the monasteries. Highly recommend this private tour to people who want to travel at their own pace.
