Gems klippte ut ur berget Man kan inte besöka Slovenien utan att besöka Postojna Cave, den största Karstgrottan i Slovenien med så mycket som 24 km fantastiskt galler av tunnlar, gallerier och hallar. Börja med elektriska tåg tar dig inuti, som ingen där annars i världen, fortsätt sedan för en vandringstur. Inte bara England, men Slovenien har också sin egen Robin Hood: Erazem of Predjama Castle var en headstrong och upprorisk "rånare" som stal från de rika att ge till de fattiga. Pivkafloden har ristat Postojnagrottan i 2 miljoner år. Vattennivån har förändrats med tiden och skapat en vacker "flernivå" underjordisk värld fylld med stalaktiter, stalagmiter, pelare, gardiner och andra underbara former skapades gradvis när vattnet lämnade lager av kalksten efter sig. De första besökarna lär ha kommit till grottan redan på 1200-talet, men de vackraste delarna av grottan upptäcktes 1818. Du kommer in i grottan med tåg. Tågresan tar ca 10 minuter och sedan fortsätter du till fots med en guidad tur. Strosa under de nåltunna transparenta rören som hänger från taket i Hall of Tubes. Från under Ryska bron kommer du till The Concert Hall varifrån du kan se den fantastiska vita Brilliant - en verkligt hisnande syn. Trots mörkrets inbrott lever cirka 100 djurarter i grottan! Huvudattraktionen är naturligtvis proteus, som först misstogs för en baby drake.
Innan besöket, ta en paus på terrassen på värdshuset framför den trotsiga, mystiska Predjama slott byggt i en klippa och njuta av dess fantastiska utsikt. Slottet är byggt som en ointaglig sump, placerad i den gapande öppningen av en grotta halvvägs uppför en 123 m klippa. Slottet har fantastiska funktioner – hål i taket av entrétornet för att hälla kokande olja på inkräktare, djupa och dak fängelsehålor, och ett kusligt gömställe på toppen som kallas Erazem's Nook. Efter en trevlig halvdagsupplevelse återvänder vi till Ljubljana. Avlämning sker på samma plats som upphämtning.

this "tour" was not exactly what we thought it was. The word tour indicates that there will be an interaction with the guide. He gave a few instructions, and then we were off. After the train ride, we got off and started walking. It was not a stroll, he was a extremely FAST walker, and did not stop once for any picture taking, which was disappointing. We are glad that we took the tour, but would have liked to take some pictures. Take the Vintner Gourge experience, it is amazing.
Great half day trip to one if the oldest cave near Ljubljana. Shirt ten minutes rides to Predjama castle was great too. Our guide Milan was great and explained lot of history about the town Ljubljana. Only thing is he drove us to both the locations and after that we were on our own. If you stay in Ljubljana I don’t think it’s worth paying someone to drive you to caves and castle. You can easily hired a taxi I guess to visit the place. This is my opinion, everyone has different comfort level when they travel. Highly recommend seeing Borge the places.
An excellently organised and delivered tour. We were met at 08:30 around the corner from our hotel (a hotel pick-up would have been available had we not been staying within a pedestrianised zone) where our courteous guide gave us information on the caves, castle and the history of Slovenia and its people on the way to our destinations. Although on booking there was a warning that the tour may be cancelled if there were insufficient numbers, there were only three of us in our party and no one else joined us so it turned out we had our own private transfer service which was great. Our guide explained that he would be able to do the trip in any order but due to the weather conditions advised to stick to the caves first as there was a chance of rain first thing which would pass by the time we got to the castle. We heeded his advice which definitely paid off as we avoided the rain whilst we went inside the caves and arrived to the castle in glorious sunshine. It was good touch that he was able to offer this flexibility on his own back to give us the best possible experience. Tickets were bought on our behalf by our guide who showed us the way towards the cave entrance. Here we joined several other tour groups and queued for the appropriate language. Whilst there was a considerable number of people for various languages, due to the staggered approach of getting people underground it did not feel crowded. After the train journey in, the tour was given at a good pace and allowed time to take in the caverns with about a 1-1.5 hour walk. The castle was also very impressive. Those expecting a lot of decorative items, furniture and the like should be aware that these are kind of sparse throughout, although there is a decent little armoury where you can have a go and lifting the unwieldy sized longswords. The main attraction comes from how the castle is set into the cave face and how features of the cave became both its strength and weakness. An audio guide is available and I found this to be very informative of its history. After our self-guided tour of the castle we met our guide once more in the car park where we were returned to the pick-up point around 13:50 after a very enjoyable half-day. A highly recommended tour.
The cave is an amazing wonder of nature. I thought this is just similar to the cave in Halong Bay of Vietnam but this is bigger and indeed the mother of all caves!The Prejama castle is also interesting. Don't expect treasures nor a lot of furnitures but what's interesting is the location of the castle and how it was built as part of the cave system. A must-see site in Slovenia
