This cost nearly $600 USD for two people! An Uber to Samobor from Zagreb only costs €40-50 euro each way. It was snowing, which wasn’t ideal. So we couldn’t visit the castle ruins. Cake was tasty. Guide was friendly and informative. However, even if the weather was nice I cannot see how $300 USD is justified in the cost. Should’ve included lunch and wine for that price point as well as a comfortable big car. We were in a small taxi. You can do the same trip with Uber, buy your own cake, and google the history of Croatia for a 1/2 of the price. Do not recommend - save your money. Maybe worth it for $100 usd/person but certainly NOT $300/person.
Thank you for your very detailed review — we genuinely appreciate the time you took to analyze our business model so thoroughly 😊 First, we must apologize for one thing clearly beyond our control: the snow. Unfortunately, despite multiple attempts, we are still unable to influence weather conditions. Our weather-control department is underfunded — most of the budget goes to booking platform commissions (more on that below). We also agree with you on one important point: the price is high. What often isn’t visible to guests is that a significant portion of that price does not go to the local agency, driver, or guide at all, but to the booking platform as commission. Sadly, we don’t receive anywhere near $300 per person — we receive the survivor’s share after everyone else takes their cut. Regarding transportation: yes, Uber can take you to Samobor. It can also smile politely, share local history, wait for you, adapt the itinerary, and answer questions — oh wait, that’s the guide. Google is also an excellent historian, though it rarely notices if you’re cold, lost, or holding cake. We’re happy you enjoyed the cake and found the guide friendly and informative — at least the human parts of the tour worked as intended. We absolutely respect your recommendation to travelers who prefer full DIY experiences. For guests who value guided storytelling, organization, time-saving, and local expertise (plus cake), this tour still finds its audience — even in the snow. We fully respect that this tour was not the right fit for you, but we also stand by the many guests who recognized it as a positive experience and a fair value for what was provided. Wishing you smooth travels and many sunny trips ahead ☀️ The Management (still negotiating with the weather) P.S. It’s possible that the $600 figure you mentioned reflected the cost if the tour had been booked for three people. When you changed to two people, the price dropped by roughly one-third — though again, this is not the amount the agency actually receives, as most of the cost goes to the booking platform’s commission.
We had a lovely time visiting the beautiful little village of Samobor. The guide/driver was excellent company and we had a great time. Was interesting to hear about the history of the castle and the walk through the town was enjoyable. Coffee and cake was yummy. Thanks a million for the great guy you sent our way
Thank you for a such nice words and we are glad your experience was on top level :)
Friendly driver and travel director, he is very knowledgeable and flexible on schedule. We enjoy very much of the trip and Cake is so nice.
Thank you for giving us a trust to show you picturesque city of Samobor. We are very glad you enjoy the city, as well Kremsnita cake. Enjoy the rest of time in Croatia with a nice weather for taking photos :)
We had a great tour to Samobor. Our guide was really knowledgeable and friendly and could answer all my husband's many questions about life past and present in Croatia. We enjoyed seeing the castle ruins and then walking down into the town. He made everything interesting. We had a delicious local cake and coffee in a charming hotel. It was nice to see a more rural town than Zagreb and to leave the city behind for a while. Very good tour and great guide.
With these words, you make us proud as we accomplished our purpose - to ensure you enjoy the tour :) It was a pleasure to have you in Samobor and to show you some of the hidden gems nearby Zagreb. Thanks for the kind words and review because it means a lot to us. All the best from Servus Team
The tour guide was excellent and made it very interesting. Pretty town. This review process is very irritating - I do not want to be made to type more.

We decided to take the trip to Samobor with Servus Tours & we are very happy with our decision. We started our Tour punctual & arrived very soon in Samobor. Our guide Bojan has a huge knowledge of Croatia, Samobor & the history. He answered all our questions & it was good fun to do the tour with him. Samobor is a cozy town & we enjoyed the famous cake there. We can really recommend taking this tour, it was worth every cent!
Dear Sarah, it was our pleasure to have you on this tour. Thank you for a such nice words and hope to see you again in Croatia. Till some next time :)
Our second tour with Dejan of Servus Tours took us to this out of the way town, as yet unaffected by the explosion of tourism in Croatia. Samobar is a beautiful, scenic, and authentically local town that sits in the shadow of Castle Samobar, which is in ruins and is rarely visited. You enter the castle walls via a short steep trail and are swept away by the setting and the history of the evil queen that once reigned there. So remote that there isn't even an entry fee, we were there an hour and say not another soul. From there we went into the town for a traditional samobar breakfast (yummy!) and back to Zagreb by noon.
I'm glad you liked this hidden gem nearby Zagreb. Your words describes in the best way Samobor how to enjoy there. Thank you for your comment, as well for photos from this tour.
Beautiful village and countryside. Very interesting guide, Dejan, who went out of his way to be helpful!
Thank you very much Miss Cecily. It was my pleasure to have you in Samobor. Hope to see you soon, no matter it will be in Croatia or in South Africa :)
This was a fantastic tour. Our guide Dan is a very good guide he provides a lot of information about the area and the history of the town. It is a good hike to get up to the castle on a dirt trail but it is well worth the effort. The town itself is very quaint and a nice public square with several restaurants and a farmers market. The cake that they make is fantastic nothing like I have ever eaten before.
Thank you Karen and Charles! It was my pleasure to be your guide and I'm very glad you enjoyed the city of Samobor and its hidden gems. Hope to see you soon :) Dejan
