is not worth the excursion....the water is not sharp and you can hardly see anything. We were looking forward to it because we thought we were going to see a lot of fish and turtles... and we left quite disappointed because you can see hardly anything since the water is very green... besides it is full of stones that if you get a little clueless you stick all the stones... quite disappointing

Unfortunately the day was very windy with the sea quite rough which made the snorkeling quite tiring. There are still many colorful fish, but the coral is not in good condition. Not to go there on purpose, but if you are in the surroundings it can be worth it.

We arrived and there was a man on the phone who stayed on the phone and gave us some stuff to try on in the mean time. We than had to wait an hour fot a tuk tuk before we were picked up to get to the beach. There we had to wait for a boat for quite a while. The boat dropped us off and asked what time we wanted to be picked up. No information or guidence. Just dropped there. We wanted to know where the good places to snorkel were but you have to figure this out for yourself. They do not communicate. The entrance fee of the island is really high. We paid for 4 persons 44.000 rupees. That's 132 euro on top of the price for the excursion. Overpriced.

Pigeon Island was our favourite destination in Trinconmalee, we saw over 300 individual fish. There were so many different coloured fish, and the waters and beach were void of any trash or pollution. On the day we went, we had spontaneously booked this experience with Pigeon Island Tours, another tour service had told me that all their tours were cancelled due to low visibility. But when we arrived and started snorkelling, even with the low visibility, we still had a wonderful experience. When you arrive on the island, the waters on the side where the boat arrives on has the sharks and turtles on that side. While the other side of the island has just fish. Both sides have beautiful coral reefs but the one on boat side has a larger reef. We had spent a majority of our time on the other side and it was wonderful. I think if we spent more time on the boat side, we would have seen more sharks. I was lucky enough to see an adult hawksbill turtle grazing on the coral as well as an adult blacktip reef shark. My friend however didn’t see them, so make sure to allocate time to swim on the boat side if that’s what you’re looking for. A tip would be to wear and bring your flipflops or sandals with you, as the area near the shore is covered in hard sharp dead corals. The snorkelling equipment provided was in good condition, and the tour arranged by Pigeon Island Tours was perfect.

Just book a group tour, a private tour adds nothing. Everyone arrives at this spot after fifteen minutes of sailing, so you can fine with fellow tourists in a boat. For the experienced snorkelers with fantastic stories, this can be a bit disappointing.

We had a fantastic experience with Pigeon Island Tours! They really looked after us, from arranging the Tuk Tuk to the island entry fee. We were dropped off on the island and left to explore the reefs. We saw a fantastic array of sea life including black tip reef sharks and moray eels. This is really friendly company to book with. We could have gone with another operator but chose this one as the communication was great. They are now my go to choice.

Beautiful experience with a super guide. Even took my phone to take photos as i was pretty scared to let go of the float! Exhilarating experience, to say the least!

Very nice experience and good people. We saw many sharks, turtles and wonderful fishes. The only little disadvantage was that our guide didn’t know english but at least the owner has good English and he is very nice guy.
