Perugia, den regionala huvudstaden, är en gammal stad som ligger i centrala norra Umbrien. Det historiska centrumet är byggt på de höga kullarna längs Tiberflodens högra strand. Vi möter varandra och startar vår vandringstur i Perugia och utforskar dess gamla romerska ruiner. Under vår turné kommer du också att uppleva en atmosfär av en medeltida italiensk hilltown genom att besöka lokala hantverksbutiker och ta en promenad genom typiska lilla gränder. Efter en lunchpaus (ingår ej) flyttas vi till Assisi. Fokusen på vår turné kommer att vara Basilica of Saint Francis med sina magnifika fresker av Giotto (13: e-14: e C.), en av Italiens viktigaste konstnärer på medeltiden.
Övre marmorbassängen har tolv sidor uppdelade i tjugofyra släta paneler av rosa Assisi sten. Var och en separeras med lika många vita Carrara-marmorstatyer som är placerade på ledningar mellan panelerna. Några av figurerna representerar personer från stadens historia och legender, medan andra är symboliska.
Rocca Paolina eller Paolina Fortress ligger precis i Perugias historiska centrum och man kan komma in via en dörr på Porta Marzia eller rulltrappan som förbinder Piazza Italia med Piazza Partigiani.
Katedralen i St. Lawrence ligger i Perugias historiska stadskärna på Piazza IV Novembre, dess sydliga fasad mot torget. En tidig kyrka dedikerad till proto-martyr Lawrence, som dog i Rom 258, byggdes här på 1800-talet ovanpå det gamla etruskanska-romerska forumet i staden. Det finns inget spår av den första byggnaden.
Den etruskiska monumentalbågen (III B.C.), nordorienterad, tillhör de första stadsmuren. Med sin 11 m. högt och på grund av dess utmärkta tillstånd av preservatino anses den vara den mest imponerande av alla antika Etrurierna.
Basilica of Saint Clare är en kyrka som är dedikerad till och innehåller resterna av Saint Clare of Assisi, en följare av Saint Francis of Assisi och grundare av de fattiga damernas ordning, känd idag som Saint Clares Order.
Minervas tempel är en gammal romersk byggnad. Det finns för närvarande en kyrka, Santa Maria sopra Minerva, byggd 1539 och renoverad i barockstil på 1700-talet. Great day! It was ungodly hot but our tour guide kept us in the shade as much as possible. She was a great storyteller but also a master of Logistics. She arranged a lovely lunch as well as transportation which allowed us to be dropped off at the top of Assisi (which is on a very steep hill) and picked up later at the bottom. I give her my highest recommendation!
The day was cold, windy, and damp, but the warmth of our guide Barbara and our driver cut through all that and made it a truly memorable visit. Barbara’s knowledge of art and history was amazing. There is a lot of walking and steps but she made allowances and accommodated our pace. We missed nothing. At the end of the day we felt we were saying goodbye to an old friend that we hope will see again soon. She made the tour a great personal experience, so much more than just visiting historical and religious monuments.
This tour was a great way to see the best of Perugia and Assisi in a day. 1st part was a walking tour of Perugia hosted by Pepe. Great views of the city, Etruscan walls, old fort ruins as well as history of Perugia and Italy. Also some excellent tips on a sunset bar and pizza by slice. Perugia is a wonderful and underrated city. 2nd part we were collected by a driver and taken to Assisi. Met by expert guide and taken through this fascinating world heritage site. A must see if you are in the region. All up one of the best private tours you can do in Italy.

Our guide, Werner, was truly a local, with earlier European background. His knowledge of history and art was amongst the best of any guide we have used anywhere. And his love of Assisi and St. Francis was very obvious. We also liked that he was flexible in scheduling, and open to expanding discussions.
An excellent guide; informative and helpful. One of our best experiences in Italy so far. As we are “older”, we appreciated how he managed the pace. Michaela was a delight in every way.
Francesca made our two city day tour very memorable. She brilliantly covered a huge amount of artistic social and cultural history across all of the ages of Etruscan, Roman, medieval and Renaissance history. She kept us in the shade when it got too hot and went at my slower pace when it was needed, and very kindly organised for us to take the tour of Basilica of San Francesco D’assisi from the top down so I didn’t need to walk the many steps going up! We would thoroughly recommend this incredible tour and our personal thanks to Francesca for a wonderful day.

We loved this tour. Easy stroll around both cities. Our guide Michaela was wonderful and you could hear the passion he has for both cities and it’s history. And the recommendations for restaurants and other sites were spot on. These may be two small cities but having this tour made us fall in love with Umbria even more
