The Perlan Museum is not to be missed! It was an amazing experience.
Even though our visit was at the end of a long day of Reykjavik exploration, we felt it was well worth the time and cost. The glacier exhibits were full of interesting information and the volcano movie was thrilling (and a bit scary!). The ice cave was a little disappointing - just like being in a walk-in freezer. But if you don't live in a cold place (I live in Maine), it would probably be fun.
Exceptional for the curious. Wonderful way to understand Iceland and more fully appreciate what you see and experience around the country.
The most amazing experience ever. Was truly inspired
I'm still giving this the full five out of five because it's an experience I won't forget. The weird accident I still can't work out whether it's my fault for not listening carefully to the guide or Perlan's for not signalling that this bit isn't for big people - basically I'm 6'5" and I went into the ice cave and found out I couldn't bend over far enough to get through the whole thing (the ceiling gets lower and lower the further you go) and nearly wedged myself. So, I threw myself on the floor to crawl out, shredded the skin on one knee, bruised the other knee. Despite that, when my wife got some help for me to patch the knee, the staff were excellent, were quick to sort me out and I was grateful for their help. The volcano experience was outstanding, and walking around the 360-degree outside walk on the roof was massively worth getting rained on for. So, in spite of the knee issues in the ice cave, this was a good place to visit and I'm glad I did.
This was a really good quality experience. Seriously, I'd wanted to go to see the building, but you can no longer access the building just for the café etc, so I'd decided to pass. Something (possibly an unexpected free day) made me change my mind. I had thought it might have been a bit lightweight and theme-parkish, but that's absolutely not the case - everything we saw was of a really good quality. I was only disappointed not to have enough time to do the Aurora twice. Being in the Volcano was every bit as good as - if not better than - some of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings underground scenes. It was well organised, and the staff were engaged and helpful. We didn't have much time in Reykjavik; this was a great way to spend some of it. Oh, and the beauty of the hill that it was on, the scent of the flowers, just the outdoors, was a total extra. ...and of course it only got 4* for value because it's Iceland, so it's well above my usual budget for a day out!
It had some great information and we liked the volcano experience as well as the ice tunnel. We just expected more for the money. It did give a nice overview of what the entire country looked like so I guess I wish we had done this at the beginning of our trip. We might have done somethings differently.
Wow! This is not a place to be rushed through. Spent over 4 hours there. So much to see and do. Something of interest around every 'corner'. Besides the big 'shows/attractions' ( volcanoes, geyser, snow cave, northern lights etc) we enjoyed the smaller areas. Had fantastic belgium waffle in the revolving restaurant - love the vibe up there with all the plants. The staff were exceptionally informative and helpful. We caught the local bus there as its a bit of a trek.
Went here on week long family trip to Iceland. The volcano experience and ice cave was very cool. My teenagers liked those. The northern light show at the planetarium was also good. Exhibits were interesting as well. Learned a lot here.
It was good, although expensive. Spent 2 hours there - not sure how people spend 3 hours there (unless they're eating lunch).
